Mr. Sammon asserts that the liberal media has misrepresented President Bush and says that the president's leadership should be taken more seriously.
At 10:00am Sat:
Description: Coverage of last Saturday's National Book Festival on the mall of the US Capitol. The planned live coverage was pre-empted by a session of the U.S. Senate. From 10am et to 4:45 pm et, Book TV will present taped programming of the festival. Authors include Douglas Brinkley, Nathaniel Philbrick, Rep John Lewis, Dorothy Height, Juan Williams, Carlos Eire, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Cokie Roberts, Ron Chernow, and Azar Nafisi.
At 5:00pm Sat:
Description: David Horowitz spoke recently to the Georgetown University College Republicans about his book "Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left." In it, the author examines what he calls the relationship between liberal American ideologies and radical Islam through shared interests and beliefs. Mr. Horowitz also claims that American liberals are so against the war on terror that they have attacked American homeland security policies as well as their international policies.
At 8:00pm Sat:
Description: Dick Wirthlin was Ronald Reagan's chief strategist and pollster from 1968-1988, including his 1980 and 1984 presidential campaigns. He remembers the lessons he learned from the late president in a book titled, "The Greatest Communicator: What Ronald Reagan Taught Me about Politics, Leadership, and Life." This event was hosted by the Heritage Foundation.
At 5:00pm Sun:
Description: From the campus of UCLA in Southern California, Michael Moore addresses students and faculty. The UCLA appearance was part of Michael Moore's "Slacker Uprising Tour," a 60-city tour -- primarily to swing states -- with the goal of encouraging young people to vote for Sen. John Kerry in November's presidential election. During the presentation, Mr. Moore reads from his new book "Will They Ever Trust Us Again?: Letters from the War Zone." Although C-SPAN cameras were earlier approved to shoot this event in its entirety, Michael Moore's staff had our cameras removed after 15 minutes, citing Mr. Moore's poor health. C-SPAN will air as much of the program as we were allowed to record.
At 5:20pm Sun:
Description: David Hardy talks about the book he co-authored with Jason Clarke, "Michael Moore is a Big Fat Stupid White Man," at Barnes and Noble bookstore in Tucson, AZ. Mr. Hardy argues that Michael Moore, whom he describes as a popular figure for the political left, is nothing but irresponsible and dishonest in his message. Mr. Hardy argues that Michael Moore is consistent in altering information and taking quotations out of context in all of his books and movies and challenges the public to hold him accountable for being misleading.
At 6:00pm Sun:
Description: Douglas Brinkley talks about how he came to write "Tour of Duty," the research he conducted for the book, and the criticism he has received from groups like Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. The interview is followed by a talk given by John O'Neill, co-author of "Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry."
Book TV is some of the best television on the airwaves. Always enjoyable.
Apparently being videoed harms your immune system somehow.
I got sidetracked for the first part of Bill Sammon's talk but picked up on his rant on Rather. Great.
I'm looking forward to Moore and then Hardy.
Just got home to catch the last few minutes of David Horowitz. He is speaking to a friendly audience at Georgetown U. in DC, and he is on fire. Looks like this is from Thursday. It will be replayed at 1:15am Eastern on Monday.
I saw it yesterday, he was great.
Did you happen to catch the Michael Moore segment this afternoon?
no, but I'm going to try to stay up to see this
I'm not going to stay up but am going to try to get up for it. You know it's at 3am eastern, right?
