"... Modernman was backing up 'robertpausen' in the weird idea that the State of CA has the Constitutional power to prohibit "assault weapons"."

Weird idea?

Where does the California State Constitution say it can't? For that matter, can you point out where in the California State Constitution the citizen's RKBA is protected?

For example, Article I, § 26 of the Alabama State Constitution provides: “That every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state.” What does California's State Constitution say?

The painting might be a little cheesy...say, along the lines of a toilet bowl flower garden or something. :)

Still, it's his yard. *G*

Sigh. I bet you think I want to stop this guy from keeping this in his yard, don't you?

Sigh.. I dont have to bet.. You like to play legalistic word games about what you've written. Case closed.

You've proved again that you have the weird idea that our 2nd Amendment, -- our Constitution, -- can be violated by States.
You've a strange, weird concept of liberty.

You are putting words in my mouth, which is a speciality of yours.

I have repeatedly written on this thread that I have no desire to prevent this guy from putting this sign up. Reading comprehension is your friend.

I'll get around to it

I'd be interested to see those quotes too. You told me to look at what Modernman posted and I didn't see anything wrong.

That line is the biggest joke in the state of IN. His prices are usually double what you can buy the same gun for at another shop. He sells guns at retail+. But I do not fault him for his sign on the rock. More power to him for his freedom of speech.

My previous post is in refrence to the "I don't want to make any money, I just love to sell guns " quote that Don used to use in his TV adds.

PAR,

The header of this thread says "The 8-foot ornamental rock, in front of the home Davis recently built near this Indianapolis suburb, depicts an eagle and the U.S. flag.

The inscription: ``It's better to own a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not own it.''"

Perhaps there's more to this "commercial sign" than I realize. However, at face value, this seems to be more of a political statement than an advertisement.

Does the rock display the name of the business and the telephone number or website? If not, you can hardly term it a "commercial sign." If the rock *does* contain such information, then I'll stand corrected.

I just saw a picture of the ROCK at http://www.indystar.com/articles/4/186893-4294-009.html

First of all, let me say that it is nothing at all like I had imagined. I figured by "eight foot rock", it was an eight-foot-high boulder. Actually, it is a dressed stone slab which is 8' long x 3' high.

Can anyone post the image here on the thread? I'm to techincally-challenged to do it.

It is his theme advertising slogan, which you would know if you had done a little research. So he has carried the slogan to his web site http://www.donsguns.com/ and now his front yard.

So, based on context, I'll call it an advertising billboard. You are free to otherwise classify it.

Would your opinion have been different if he had expounded his thought in favor of the assault weapons ban? "Don Davis, the owner of Don's Guns in Indianapolis, the largest independent gun dealer in the nation, called the ban a reasonable idea, because assault weapons are made for combat, not hunting." http://www.policeone.com/policeone/frontend/parser.cfm?object=News&operation=full_news&id=91798

I'm not suprised. After reading some of your remarks going back about six months it's apparent that you two think a lot alike. That's why you feel it necessary to defend him. My attacks on his liberal viewpoints have hit a nerve with you because you hold some of the very same views.

That anti-smoking thread was a classic. Henry Waxman would be proud of you.

Don't tell me, let me guess. You're going to accuse me of holding liberal views and make some claims that I said something I didn't. Then when asked for evidence, you'll bluster, call me a liberal again, and make up something else. At least that's what you did to Modernman here...

"You're going to accuse me of holding liberal views"

Why else would you jump to a liberal's defense? Another Freeper has already posted that he recalls the thread where "Modernman" argued in defense of Clinton's Assault Weapon Ban. Are you saying that both he and I are liars?

I'm saying that if you want to accuse myself, Modernman, or any other Freeper of holding liberal views, you should post your evidence. So far, you've accused both me and Modernman of holding liberal views - and your reason for accusing me is "Why else would you jump to a liberal's defense?" despite the fact that you showed no evidence that Modernman was a liberal either. Why is it so difficult for you to just provide evidence of your accusations? It's easy enough to look through back posts. Instead, you accuse, misrepresent, and generally discredit yourself by making accusations you can't support.

" I'd be interested to see those quotes too. You told me to look at what Modernman posted and I didn't see anything wrong."

OK wiseguy....here's one for starters. This remark by Modernman is from 10/4/2004. That's about two weeks ago.

"Lesbian Until Graduation. Not an uncommon thing. It allows women to have a sexual relationship while avoiding all the potentially negative effects (pregnancy, STDS) of being involved with a guy. I kind of agree with Dennis Leary- if I ever have daughters, I really wouldn't have a problem with them being lesbians in high school and college."

You don't see anything wrong with that or you just missed that one? Perhaps you share his views with regards to the HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA and BANNING GUNS?

So what's up ther Mr. Stoned Mountain from Kalifornia? You think Modernman's quote in #159 is a Conservative view? Do you agree with that view?
