Did anyone just watch "Decisions That Shook the World", on The Discovery Channel?
10/19/04 | The Discovery Channel

Did anyone just see this? It was about Reagan and the Cold War. Basically it went through the history of his presidency and his dealings with the Soviets. It put him and his efforts in a very good light.

I'm 26, so I barely remember the last term of his presidency, and nothing from his firt term. I was struck by all the similarities of then and today.

You could superimpose the anti-war protestors of then, and put them in NYC today, and not see any difference. He was often accused of being a war monger and a cowboy. It's amazing how he proved the Media and pacifists wrong.

Everything he achieved was because of his stubborness, resolve, and his belief in his own way of doing things, and he was right.

Next Tuesday there is another episode about the lead up to and the dealings in WWII. If it's anything like the program tonight, it should be good.

You should have told us before it started, rather than after it ended.

Just remember, while Reagan was winning the cold war Kerry was trumpeting the Nuclear Freeze, while Reagan was defending democracy in Latin America and trying to support the Nicaraguan contras, Kerry was in bed with the Sandinistas.

Kerry was on the wrong side an the end of the Vietnam War, he was on the wrong side during the Cold War and he's on the wrong side now. He is not to be trusted. Ever.

It was great. I have not watched any of the networks shows in years. AE, Discovery, History Channel, TLC... all far better programming. Real life, history, and science are far more entertaining than the dribble on the big three.

Rice: Reagan Inspired Russians to Be Free

NewsMax Wires
Monday, June 7, 2004

Condoleezza Rice told Fox News that Ronald Reagan so inspired her that he completely changed the course of her working life.
Rice said that as a young Soviet specialist she was "stuck in the notion that the Soviet Union was always going to exist; that the best we could do was to speak up for our values ... but that Communism was a permanent fixture on the international scene."

Then she heard Reagan speak about Communism and the Soviet union.

"I can remember very well,” she said, “ when Ronald Reagan talked about the day that Communism would end up on the ash heap of history, because it was a sad experiment that had been perpetrated on these hapless people.”

She recalled how the academics and elites would hear this and say, "How terrible; how undiplomatic that he would say such a thing," but Rice told Fox that because Reagan spoke clearly, because he was willing to speak the truth, he inspired “not just people here, but so many ... people who are part of a free Russia."

"He inspired them to realize that they didn't have to live in conditions of Tyranny forever. What a wonderful gift."

Rice added: "Ronald Reagan will be remembered for a lot of things: for his strength; for his character; for what he did for America;" and for his forthrightness, which she said “contributed mightily to the end of the cold war, and Communism as we knew it.”

I know, my fault. I found it about 1/4 of the way in, and was glued to the TV. If we have any night owls here, It should be on again later tonight. It's definately worth watching.

Actually I was thinking of just staying home this year. I only live in Wisconsin, it's not like the republican party needs my vote here.

VOTE ANYWAY!!!!

Don't ever take for granted your privilege to vote!

There are people who risk death (i.e. Afghan citizens, and the soldiers who helped them), in order to have the same right you were born with.

He [Reagan] was often accused of being a war monger and a cowboy.

Liberals have a limited vocabulary...then and now. They stick to the playbook...all 3 pages of it.

I missed the show, but lived the history. Sounds like you got a pretty good assessment.

Sorry, I forget about the old farts, I mean, Wise Elders, on FreeRepublic.

Don't worry, I've voted at every opportunity since I turned 18 and plan on continuing to do so. Maybe we can give Mr. ProtestVote Feingold the boot this year, and DoNothing Kohl in '06.
