The centerpiece of John Kerry's foreign policy is to rebuild our alliances so the world will come to our help, especially in Iraq. He repeats this endlessly because it is the only foreign policy idea he has to offer. The problem for Kerry is that he cannot explain just how he proposes to do this.
The mere appearance of a Europhilic fresh face is unlikely to so thrill the allies that French troops will start marching down the streets of Baghdad. Therefore, you can believe that Kerry is just being cynical in pledging to bring in the allies, knowing that he has no way of doing it. Or you can believe, as I do, that he means it.
He really does want to end America's isolation. And he has an idea how to do it. For understandable reasons, however, he will not explain how on the eve of an election.
Think about it: What do the Europeans and the Arab states endlessly rail about in the Middle East? What (outside Iraq) is the area of most friction with U.S. policy? What single issue most isolates America from the overwhelming majority of countries at the United Nations?
The answer is obvious: Israel.
In what currency, therefore, would we pay the rest of the world in exchange for their support in places like Iraq? The answer is obvious: giving in to them on Israel.

You'd think Bush's staunchly pro-Israel stand would garner him more support from Jewish Americans in general, and maybe even some prominent Jewish celebrities. I guess abortion rights trumps all for some.

52 electoral votes are up for grabs while KERRY has 205 in his pocket.
I'll declare now that if Kerry is elected, Israel will be finished. Thrown to the wolves in the name of liberalism.
I can't explain it, and believe me I've tried. I have yelled and hung up on my parents about this subject. Maybe because they're older and, hell, I don't know, I can't understand or excuse them.

In the debate Bush made the point that he was unpopular in Europe for standing up for Israel. A good column in National Review discusses Jewish support for Israel. It finishes by noting that if Jews vote for Kerry anyway, it will show future Demcocrats they have no need to support Israel and show Republicans they have nothing to gain by doing so.

BTW, The Jewish Press has endorsed President Bush, and I personally expect an increase in the Jewish vote for President Bush to around 25%. Not terrific, but enough to take Florida.

People who really want to know who Kerry is and what he is at his core understand that above all else he is a globalist.
Someone who seeks to curry favor with the UN understands that sacrificing Israel is THE easiest way to accomplish that.
There are a few like Ed Koch and Ron Silver. But as Dennis Prager says "I have to break it to many of them (older Jews)that FDR is not on the ballot".

I'd put Michigan in Kerry's column. I didn't see New Mexico on your list but I put than in Kerry's column as well. Then if Bush takes Iowa and Florida (which I think he will) the other toss ups don't matter. I think that adds up to 271.

After the Islamists would take over the Middle East, they will blackmail the entire world with oil, which is, like it or not, the lifeblood of modern economy.
If Kerry gets elected, we better learn which way is Mecca, so we'll know where to face five times a day.

I don't think that the President Bush's support for Israel is the result of a pandering attempt to obtain Jewish votes, as you seem to suggest. I think it is heartfelt and based on his religious and ethical make-up. He believes that it is the right thing to do.
Even if President Bush were supporting Israel in order to obtain votes (which I don't believe is the case), I think that the votes that he would have in mind are those of the evangelical Christians. Common belief is that some 4 million evangelicals stayed home in 2000 rather than vote for President Bush.
Liberal Jews, like all liberals, in many cases have a lifetime (and, indeed, generations of lifetimes)of belief in liberalism as a kind of secular religion. Although I myself am a passionate supporter of Israel, I don't think that you can expect lifetime liberals -- regardless of their religion -- to ignore their life and family commitment to liberalism just because of President Bush's support of Israel. Most American Jews have never visited Israel anyway.
I do think that all liberals who plan to vote for John Kerry are pathetically short-sighted for not supporting President Bush because of his fight in the war on terror. In my opinion, this one issue trumps every other issue, as Mayor Koch has said time and again.
Nonetheless, I do expect President Bush to get Jewish support in the upper 30s. I realize that this is higher than the AJC poll which puts support in the mid-20s, but I think that the poll is based on old data.
