"Phoenix, AZ, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Author and conservative columnist Ann Coulter was assaulted by two men who threw custard pies at her during a talk at the University of Arizona."
The Arizona Daily Wildcat reports as Coulter was answering questions in front of a packed house at the university's Centennial Hall, the men ran up on stage and threw the pies, one of which connected with her shoulder while missing her face -- a pie-thrower's traditional target.
Coulter made light of the situation, saying, "From that far away they can't even hit me?" the author of three New York Times best-sellers said as the two men were arrested and taken away in handcuffs by police.
TheSmokingGun.com Web site later identified the two man as Phillip Edgar Smith and William Zachary Wolff, both, 24, of Tucson.
Smith, a UA student, and Wolff were charged with criminal damage, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and assault. The felony charge resulted from damage to a backdrop school officials estimated at $3,000, the Web site said."
