Statement by Miami Beach Mayor David Dermer (D)
George W. Bush ^ | October 26, 2004

Posted on 10/26/2004 1:18:54 PM PDT by RWR8189

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Today, Miami Beach Mayor David Dermer (D) issued the following statement regarding John Kerry’s remarks in Boca Raton yesterday:

“I was surprised that John Kerry offered a book he wrote about terrorism eight years ago as evidence that he knows how to fight a War on Terror. Both his statements yesterday along with what he writes in his book make me even more certain that when it comes to the War on Terror, John Kerry simply does not understand the severity of the threat America faces nor does he understand that America must act offensively.

“In Kerry’s book, he called Yasser Arafat a ‘statesman’ and ‘a role model.’ It is no wonder that Yasser Arafat has openly endorsed Kerry for President. As someone who has a brother and sister living in Israel, I am also deeply concerned about Kerry’s more recent statements toward Israel, especially his claim that Israel’s life-saving security fence is a ‘barrier to peace.’

“Kerry’s voting record on Israel in the Senate does not assuage my concerns. It is easy for a Senator from Massachusetts to support Israel when there is no pressure to do otherwise. But an American President must stand by Israel in the face of pressure from many parties hostile to Israel, from the UN to the European Union to the Arab States - all bodies that Kerry would seek approval from to satisfy his ‘global test.’ President Bush has withstood that pressure and stood by Israel through thick and thin. I have grave concerns that John Kerry will not stand up to this pressure, and the first country that will be asked to the pay the price for Kerry’s effort to win ‘allies’ will be the Jewish state.”

LOLOLOL!!!

I do so wish he'd mentioned that researchers have said that Kerry plagiarized major sections of his '97 book. Examples are given and it's clear as day he stole entire sentences and paragraphs.

Another Democrat endorses President Bush!!!

Not a factor. Go back and read the last posted sentence in the article for the real meaning of his statement.

Let's see if Dermer's harsh words for Kerry will translate into Jewish votes for Bush in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. We can't lose the Jewish vote by the same lopsided margin as in 2000 and expect to win Florida by a lawsuit-proof margin.

For those that don't know...this guy is no conservative Democrat...He is a bigtime LIBERAL....

More evidence of the "September 12th Republicans."

I do so wish he'd mentioned that researchers have said that Kerry plagiarized major sections of his '97 book.

That would have detracted from his point. His making a very important statement to a certain religious sector on how to vote.

I went back and read the last posted sentence in the article, and unless you believe that South Florida voters couldn't care less about the fate of Israel I don't see why you characterize Dermer's tacit endorsement of the President as being a non-factor.

The article mentions he has relatives living in Israel, so I presume he's Jewish.
