Senate hopeful Democratic Congresswoman Denise Majette said Monday a company owned by her opponent, Republican Congressman Johnny Isakson, was guilty of discrimination.
As both candidates crisscrossed the state, the Majette campaign distributed information that accused Isaksons company, Northside Realty, of discriminating against Black homebuyers in the early 1970s.
The company, which was founded by Isaksons father and also run by him at the time of the charges, was found in violation of the Fair Housing Act by the federal government in 1970.
The public needs to know what his record is and Im not doing anything other than informing the public about the full story, Majette said.
Isakson, who enjoys a double-digit lead in polls, responded angrily in Savannah.
It's a pretty low person that would attack someone's father when he's been passed away for 11 years, and in the '70s my father was involved in a case that worked out just fine, Isakson said. My father was a wonderful man, I miss him to this day. Im sorry she'd choose to take something like that and try and make it into something in a political race.
Throughout October, Majette has employed an aggressive strategy and has relentlessly portrayed Isakson as a corrupt politician brought off by special interests.
The impact of his votes and the way he has conducted business as a public official is significant and the people of Georgia need to understand that, Majette said.
Professor Michael Binford, a political scientist at Georgia State University, said Majette was likely trying to erode Isaksons image by raising doubts about his character.
I think it's probably a last-minute charge and probably won't be heard by many people, he said. It might affect a few votes, but probably nothing substantial.
A poll by SurveyUSA released on Sunday showed Isakson leading Majette 56 percent to 40 percent.
Isakson was on a seven-city tour to drum support for his candidacy and to also help a GOP takeover of the state House of Representatives, giving Republicans complete control of the state capitol.
Double-barrelled Mega-PING! to both lists! If you want on, FReepmail me!
Not only that, but the JEWS, THE JEWS!
It just makes me sad that this woman could be reelected.
Just jumping on the Heinz family bandwagon.
I'm glad she's losing, especially after re-inflicting McKinney on the rest of us.
Not since Monica Lewinsky left Washington.
My how rats do squeal.
Denise, you ain't winning. You ought to know you only won because conservatives wanted Cynthia out. Democrats aren't that big in the state.
Isakson may be RINOish, but I am glad to hear him respond to the expected race card tactics. Too many Republicans just sit back and let the race baiting lies go unchallenged. Plus I am glad to hear that he helping to build the party on the local level too.
Bye Denise. You coulda been a mainstay in the House for a decade, but nooooooooo....... you had to climb out.
Ever wonder why Gephardt never ran for the Senate?
Interesting...she's right, but this won't help her chances in Georgia.
I think you're thinking of Jihad Cindy McKinney (and Isakson's a Methodist - not jewish). Majette has no chance in this election and this is just a weak attempt to get her base to the polls.
Ah, Jesus is only one person, and He is never desparate for anything, and yes, He is a Wonderful Savior isn't He?
But she is a periphary to the story so its a legitimate post.
Not since Monica Lewinsky left Washington.
LOLOLOL!! QOTD!!!!!
Does anyone know how to nominate for QOTD? mh???
I am so sad for the constituents in her district. They had Cynthia McKinney who is certifiable and threw her out for a judge (Majette) who normal people would assume had a sense of responsiblilty and dignity. Not so. She is such an idiot that she took her liberal ideas to the state level and presumed to run against a long time, well known republican in a state that has gone overwhelmingly republican. Go figure. No, don't. She's an idiot.
The bad news is that Herman Cain (a revolutionary) was ousted by Johnny Isakson. If the Senate had about fifty Herman Cains the economy would explode. Oh well. We'll keep trying.
Maybe he/she is addressing Jesus` (Hey-Soos), his/her Hispanic neighbor.
