Would like to see those figures, if you exclude farm subsidies. I bet we pay net welfare to the cities. Welfare, mass transit subsidies, etc.

How about we think about stopping that?

If determined on a county basis, it would be easily 80% from BLUE counties. All the big cities are infested with welfare leeches, not Bush counties.

I may be wrong, but I don't think he meant welfare in the usual sense. He said the urban areas pay more taxes to the federal government and don't get it back while rural areas don't pay as much and get more federal dollars. He was wondering if the urban or blue areas would continue to support the red states with their federal dollars. Pat Buchanan pointed out the people earning more than $50,000 in the urban areas probably voted for Bush so this was not much of an argument. The blue urban voters for Kerry do not pay that much in taxes to the federal governmnet was his point.
