Weep for BBC News
The Times [UK] ^ | November 7, 2004 | Stephen Pollard

This is news? A few days ago Barbara Plett, a BBC Middle East correspondent, broadcast a report about the airlifting of Yassir Arafat to Paris. She informed her listeners: “When the helicopter carrying the frail old man rose above his ruined compound, I started to cry … without warning.”

She went on to talk about Arafat’s “ambivalence towards violence” (an interesting phrase for the man who effectively invented modern-day terrorism) and to castigate Ariel Sharon for having “demonised” the man responsible for a campaign to murder as many Israeli citizens as possible.

For some reason, Ms Plett’s words have prompted a series of news reports. I am at a loss to understand why. There is nothing remotely newsworthy about her having expressed her adoring view of Arafat and her contempt for Israel’s attempts to defend itself from terror. Certainly, her tear-jerking might not convey the impartiality which license-fee payers ought to be able to expect from the BBC, but her sentiments are so straight-down-the-line a representation of the BBC’s bias against Israel that they are in no way newsworthy.

The BBC’s world view is ever present across its airwaves. Anyone who disagrees with its left-liberal clichés is at best an oddity and at worst deranged. …

“When the helicopter carrying the frail old man rose above his ruined compound, I started to cry … without warning.”

The only sad part of the Arafat situation is that Israeli forces will be deprived the opportunity to end his miserable life with a bullet.

There seems to be an irrational proccupation by "why people who appear totally normal, have such an irrational hatred for Bush". I don't give it a second thought; just as I don't give a second thought to the ignorant who demonize Israel for defending her very exixtence, and glorify killers like Arafat, and all SMs*

Actually, I understand why they didn't do it. It would have resulted in too much chaos and horrific reprisals.

Surely the Brits can tell the difference between Gandhi and Arafat. Good lord does anyone actually listen to this stuff.

I wouldn't complain about the outraged reaction to this nitwitted moral pervert. Maybe people are finally waking up. For heavens sake, don't just tell them "Everybody at BBC does it."

This was an especially egregious example, and the more publicity it gets, the better.

Just so you know--you're not alone, I saw that sentence too.

I wonder if this box of rocks ever mentioned John Edwards's "dislike of hairspray"

The Brits may temporarily be our "allies" but the general feeling among the people seems to be cut from the same cloth as the French and all the rest of the Euro-scum.

You are right. I lived in the UK in the 70s and 80s. Back then there was a 30% commie demo. But during the 90s the state run schools, state run media and daily EU propaganda has produced 2 generations of blathering Marxists who hate America and think Israel is Nazi. The Brits are trash and I will no longer travel there. This coming from someone who grew up there. They can F themselves.

Isn't this the guy who (among his other sins) ordered the kidnapping of 2 American ambassadors (in Sudan?) in order to gain the release of Sirhan Sirhan, then had them killed when the USA refused?

When his death is finally announced, I will not be dancing in the streets, screeching and distributing candy like the jubilant "Palestinians" did after hearing the news that 3000 innocent Americans were vicious murdered on 9/11. These people ,lead by Arafat, are blood thirsty savages and are unworthy of sympathy or veneration. The BBC should be ashamed. The British people should demand that the BBC, a taxpayer funded institution, be reformed.

OK, to be perfectly honest I might let out a yell when Arafat finally meets his end, but only in the privacy of my own home where only my family will hear my joyful yell.

I'll start selling "Arafat Memorial Toliet Paper" with his face on it and a bullseye.

There was a time when the BBC was respected throughout the world. People today find this very difficult to believe. The BBC of the 21st century, of course, is a sick joke.

Lady BBC is "kept" by its stable of pimps at PBS.

PBS - our taxes!!!- pays big bucks to keep BBC on the air here in the US.

I may not yell audibly, but I will dedicate the first fart I pass after his death to his legacy!

Don't confuse the British people with the BBC, anymore than confusing the American people with PBS.
