I haven't done this before (and the moderators may not post this) but I've reached my limit. This past weekend our local newspaper had two columns from 'enlightened' national commentators, and one political cartoon, all saying that those of us with a professed faith who voted for George Bush were uninformed, unsophisticated lunatics. This was followed by still another column in the Sunday paper, by another columnist, saying virtually the same thing. Today on the internet there are still more references to the "analyses" of "experts", all saying that we are silly, not-to-be-taken seriously individuals. Well, here is some food for thought: I am a mature individual who indeed has a professed faith in God. I am neither an evangelical nor a fundamentalist. I regularly worship at a traditional, long-established Christian church. When I was young I too did not like the Vietnam war and I actually campaigned for McGovern. Over the years I have sometimes voted for Republican candidates and sometimes for Democratic candidates. I am not registered with either party because I simply don't believe it is anyones business what I think regarding politics. I weigh the issues, the candidates and the times in which we are living. But since the election, not before, I have changed. Now I will forever have ringing in my ears a very, very important message sent by those who loudly and strongly proclaim that they represent the "other" way of looking at life, and hence the Democratic candidate(s). That message is, that they don't like me, they don't respect me or my opinions, and they don't want me anywhere around them. Thank you. I will keep that in mind for a long, long time. Yesterday (Sunday) I happened to hear a radio interview of a Democratic Senatorial winner in the election. This re-elected Senator told the radio program host that "it is important for Democrats to tell the country that they have values and morals and faith". I heard that and laughed to myself, thinking, "You have already told us what those are.....and they aren't mine, and it looks like they never will be." Thank you. I'm going to keep all of this in mind for a long time.
Let them. It will further alienate the voters.
Everyone has some faults. Welcome to FR. ;O)
This really is nothing new. While pursuing my philosophy degree from a secular institution as a staunch theist, these remarks were commonplace.
The good news is that this isn't the hidden, condecending approach liberal elitists once had. Good is slowly trumping the nihilist poison that has corrupted intellectual thought and they are going mad. Perhaps theymay all follow the pattern of their "god" Neizche? :-)
I kid...I kid...
1. Never refer to homosexuals as "gays". They aren't gay, they are usually mad as h&ll. "Homosexual" is judgmentally neutral and technically accurate. Use that term instead.
2. Never say "I feel that we should..." You feel hungry, horny, sad. You do not "feel" this way or that about welfare reform, you think this way or that. Don't use "feel" when you mean "think".
3. Learn to laugh out loud when you hear a liberal spouting BS. You need not fight with them, just chuckling and walking away will work.
Please be free to add to this list, and know that you are not alone, by a long shot.
Stop buying those newspapers. It's as simple as that.
Excellent advice, but it's always a nice touch to pat them on the head.
Tune in to CSPIN early morning to start your day with a good laugh!
The left thinks it's moral to kill innocent children because they are an inconvenience to their parents.
The left thinks it's moral to practice human sacrifice (in the form of fetal stem-cell research)
The left thinks its moral to euthanize the sick and elderly because they are an inconvenience to their families.
The left thinks it's moral to give an able bodied person a welfare check instead of helping them understand the importance of hard work, self-respect, education, and high moral character.
The left thinks it's moral to deny school choice to children who are stuck in the hedonistic war zones they call public schools.
The left thinks it's moral to take away peoples land to protect an endangered insect or to create a swamp.
The left thinks it's moral to ignore the constitution and take guns away from law abiding citizens.
The left thinks it's moral to force every American citizen into pay into the pyramid scheme called social security, which is rigged to never pay most people anything since they should be dead by the time their old enough to collect.
The left thinks it's moral to hand out condoms and needles to kindergartners.
The left thinks it's moral to parade mentally disordered homosexuals and other sexual deviants in front of our children.
The left thinks it's moral to remove every reference to religion from the workplace and government.
The left thinks it's moral to cripple our economic system with a crushing tax and regulatory burden in order to promote their failed socialist/communist ideology.
The left thinks it's moral to ridicule and belittle those who believe in God.
The left thinks its moral to be tolerant of everyone except those with whom they disagree.
The left thinks its moral for unelected officials who serve life terms to impose their doctrine of death and hopelessness on the rest of us.
The liberals have never had any room for any competing ideas. Despite all their talk of tolerance, the have absolutely no tolerance for anyone who does not agree with them.
I think that this is not an isolated case. 9% of registered Democrats voted Republicans, and my guess is they all feel insulted by the media. They will go on voting Republicans. Democrats lost 9% of their voters in one election.
I'm not evangelical or fundamentalist either. In fact, it takes a pretty strong effort for me to be on the same side as people who think my faith is that of the Whore of Babylon and that the Church is the great evil in Revelation. But it is what it is; I'm a Republican, I'm a conservative.. and I'm Catholic.
"saying that those of us with a professed faith who voted for George Bush were uninformed, unsophisticated lunatics."
This is a big part of the attitude that cost them the election. Even Slick Willie understands that.
Unfortunately, many Catholics display the same snotty attitude to their Fundamentalist/Evangelical allies that the Left does to religious people as a whole. While you will not hear many anti-Catholic sermons at "mainstream" Southern Baptist or Pentecostal churches these days, you will read plenty of attacks on Biblical inerrancy in Catholic publications.
Next time you hear a lefty putting down religious people, remember how it feels. I think many Evangelicals could understand if ultra-rightwing Catholics called them "evil." What makes no sense is the attacks for being "simple-minded" for accepting the word of a sacred text the two religions allegedly share.
May I add a few more?
The left thinks its immoral to criticize any religion that is not Christian or Jewish.
The left thinks its moral for activist judges to issue decrees that are indirect contradiction to the Constitution, as long as those decrees permit discrimination against Conservatives.
The left thinks its moral for liberal Senators to impede or block the appointment of judicial appointments that do not agree with their liberal agenda.
The left thinks its moral for the news media to broadcast or print lies, distortions and twisted comments about Conservatives.
The left thinks its moral for the news media to become involved in the political process, as long as that involvement is to advance the liberal agenda.
The left thinks its moral for organizations such as the Boy Scouts to be banned from public facilities because they believe in a higher being.
The left thinks its moral for organizations such as the Boy Scouts to be banned from Civic Funds because they refuse to permit Homosexuals and Pedophiles to be Scout Leaders.
The left thinks its immoral to legally execute a one convicted of the molestation, torture, rape and murder of a child.
Don't worry about it. When the pograms start, they will be looking for ANYBODY with the label "Christian". The terms "Catholic", "Protestant", "Evangelist", and/or "Fundamentalist" won't matter a'tall, a'tall.
I can't imagine what took you so long but welcome aboard!
