Pipes is right on the mark. There will be a resumption of heavy US pressure on Israel, now that Arafat is gone.
Pipes is a pretty astute guy. I've heard him interviewed a number of times, and always come away agreeing with what he had said. Of course, he's the expert. I've seen experts trotted out before, that you wouldn't know were experts by their flawed logic. Not so with Pipes. He's one of the good guys.

to believe that just because of Arafat's passing (as much as it is a blessing) will automatically create a a viable partner with which Israel can deal is ridiculous. Pipes is correct that they have to clean up house in the territory before anyone will emerge as a leader(s) to attain peace.
