More than a dozen traumatized John Kerry supporters have sought and received therapy from a licensed Florida psychologist since their candidate lost to President Bush, the Boca Raton News learned Monday. Boca Raton trauma specialist Douglas Schooler said he has treated 15 clients and friends with intense hypnotherapy since the Democratic nominee conceded last Wednesday. I had one friend tell me hes never been so depressed and angry in his life, Schooler said. I observed patients threatening to leave the country or staring listlessly into space. They were emotionally paralyzed, shocked and devastated.

Schoolers disclosure comes after the weekend discovery of a Kerry volunteers corpse at Ground Zero in New York City. Georgia resident Andrew Veal, 25, reportedly killed himself with a shotgun blast to the head due to Kerrys loss and a girlfriend problem. Some mental health professionals in South Florida said Monday they have already developed a new category for the Kerry-related stress reactions. Because Palm Beach County voted heavily for Kerry, the therapists said, many residents hurt themselves by so anxiously expecting the Massachusetts senator to win especially those who maintained unrealistic recount hopes after their candidates concession. Were calling it post-election selection trauma and were working to develop a counseling program for it, said Rob Gordon, the Boca-based executive director of the American Health Association. Its like post-traumatic stress syndrome, but its a short-term shock rather than a childhood trauma. Gordon, the first American Red Cross psychotherapist sent to Ground Zero after the 9/11 terror attacks, said therapists main concern is to prevent the recurrence of Kerry-related suicides like the one in New York City. There are definitely people depressed by John Kerrys loss, and this can easily lead to suicides like the one we saw up in New York this weekend, Gordon said. Luckily, it can be treated if people seek help. Were urging people to call us immediately if they feel depressed or know anyone who is seriously stressed out. Also in Boca, at least one counseling center and an emotional support group were preparing for an influx of Kerry supporters at their first post-election meetings today. Well let the Kerry voters talk about it and let off some steam, and by listening to other peoples stories, well help them refocus and surrender to the things in their life which they cant possibly change, said a spokeswoman for Emotions Anonymous, a recovery group meeting tonight at Glades Presbyterian Church. Were referring people with election-related stress to the Democratic National Committee, said Karen Jacobs of the Center for Group Counseling. Well do what we can for anyone who shows up for our support group programs this week, but we havent implemented a specific program for Kerry-related trauma. Schooler, practicing in Boca since 1984, said he treated his 15 patients last week with hypnosis-based rapid response trauma therapy. This week, he is charging a sliding fee to non-clients who feel they need the one-time election therapy session. South Floridians can contact him at 561-395-3033. A lot of Kerry voters dont know what to do with their anger, because there was no recount, so theyve kept it bottled up, said Schooler, who also is a certified sex therapist. I help them transform the anger into more positive emotions. Asked to describe symptoms of the post-election trauma, Schooler said, They include feelings of extreme anger, despair, hopelessness, powerlessness, a failure to function behaviorally, a sense of disillusionment, of not wanting to vote anymore that sort of thing. Were talking about a deep, unhealthy personal suffering that can best be remedied by intensive short-term therapy.
posted 1000X, but with that said, I can't read this article enough.
ooooooooooops, I goofed! sorry for posting the whole article!
I always knew Liberals were mental.
Clean up on aisle 3.....
Rush was talking about that yesterday.
Morons. This John Kerry we are talking about. No one gets emotional about him. I suggest that these people need therapy (or deportation) anyway because if they have to see a shrink, then they are filled with too much emotional hatred to be out in public anyway.
e-mail I received from a dem friend in Florida:
The election is over The talking is done
My side has lost And your side has won
Now let's all pull together And let bitterness pass
I'll hug your elephant If you kiss my ass
This is sort of an ambulance-chasing psychologist, is it not?? A liberal enjoying the fruits of capitalism. hahaha.
Have them all leave this land of plenty. They should go to a 3rd World Country. I don't want them in Iraq, we have enough hate groups there we do not need to add the democrats. Plus our soilders deserve better!!
Did anyone see Larry O Donnell?
If these whining Democrats are an example of Kerry's base supporters then we've been blessed to escape a Kerry win.
I know children who are more adult than these idiots.
The libs don't need Freudian psychology, they need an exorcism.
The dims have gone over the edge.
These guys are making money off the backs of the dem/libs. Ha,ha.
Sometimes I wonder why I live in Boca - these people actually represent a sizable portion of the dysfunctional population here.
If they were real doctors, they'd discover their "patients" have more going on than just a lost election. It's ridiculous to think that a person would become depressed simply because of politics. These people have other problems; they USE politics to pin their emotional instabilities on. They could just as easily become depressed if focused on, say, coffee quality, and discovered Starbucks or whoever wasn't going to make their favorite brew anymore.
They're prone to fanaticism, anti-social and obssessive behaviors. That's why they get depressed. And, I'm not even a doctor (heh-heh, maybe it shows!).
Count slowly back from 100...you are getting sleepy..say after me...I don't suck...I don't suck...I don't suck...I don't suck...I don't suck...Oh hell! I do suck...I am the null singularity of all suckiness...all suckiness in the universe bends toward me...I am drawn into the swirling maelstom of the sucky universe...I see the Supreme Avatar of the sucky universe...he's windsurfing.
I'll nominate that for Quote of the Day.
