TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Denver Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer was among about 50 former Arizona State teammates of Pat Tillman who gathered Saturday night to help the school retire the fallen soldier's No. 42 jersey in a halftime ceremony.

Members of Tillman's family also were on hand for the second such tribute at Sun Devil Stadium, during Arizona State's home finale against Washington State. The NFL's Arizona Cardinals retired Tillman's jersey at their home opener on Sept. 19.

"He would be the first one to appreciate us all having a beer on his behalf," Plummer said at a pregame gathering. "We're all here paying tribute to him because we loved him dearly, and we miss him."

I was attending ASU at the same time as Tillman. He was a great guy even before he joined the NFL or the military. Godspeed, Pat.

I think of all the brave men and women in uniform, and my faith in America is restored. Please never forget REAL MEN like Tillman and all the rest.

The NFL threatened to fine Jake Plummer for continuing to wear Tillman's number on his helmet.

RIDICULOUS!!!

It seriously saddens me and I wish Plummer would have just paid whatever fine the NFL was going to impose. I mean, it's not like he doesnt make enough money.

I was at the AZ Cardinals game when they honored Tillman. I have two #40 pins and a great memory. This was a man. His family/friends/etc should be honored.

It's very hard to experience someone so alive and vital...and heroic die before our eyes and become transformed into a symbol of all the hopes, dreams, and ideals we hold so dear. And of our own mortality.
Let's pray we never get over Pat's passing.

God bless Pat Tillman! I can't believe that he was bad mouthed by Rene Gonzalez of UMass-Amherst.

First rate idolatry of yet another sports "hero"...

What about the other 1124? Who will remember them?

Maybe a different way to look at it is a talented millionaire who gave it all up to be an E4 to fight for his country. That, by any reasonable standard, is a hero.

With all due respect, I think we honor all of them that have fallen. All have made the ultimate sacrifice. This one instance just has a lot more publicity and he did something that 99.999% of Americans would not have done.

May God bless all of these fallen men and women.

God Bless Pat Tillman and his family members who have lost a father, son, brother, friend and TRUE AMERICAN HERO. The rest of the sports world would do themselves some good to learn that this is what being a hero is all about. Not being arrested and fathering illegitimate children.
