Fix the schools. That appeal has become the self-serving mantra of the anti-ballpark brigade in the city. The purpose is to disarm those who embrace the vision of a publicly funded ballpark along the Anacostia River waterfront in Southeast. People shouldn't criticize the D.C. school system - after all, that publicly funded ballpark is going to need people to man the hot dog stands or tell you where to park, and the D.C. schools are turning out plenty of potential candidates to fill those positions.

The DC Chapter of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) is one of the strongest teachers unions in the country. That is the problem. The AFT only cares about enriching the AFT so that they can spend lavishly on themselves (just ask the former DC AFT President she is bunking next to Martha). In the case of DC the teachers are the problem, not the solution.
