Texan storm drenches Clinton parade

A FIERCE storm blowing in from Texas rained mercilessly on Bill Clinton’s parade yesterday. The crowning moment of the former President’s efforts to shape his legacy was all but washed away as 25,000 people huddled and shivered in the driving rain that accompanied the dedication of his $165 million (£90 million) presidential library.

Mr Clinton looked crestfallen as the Presidents Bush, senior and junior, President Carter, a large train of diplomats and politicians from around the world and a crowd larger than most Arkansas towns were soaked.

When Bono and The Edge from U2 opened their brief headlining set with the line, “When the rain comes, you might as well be dead”, Mr Clinton looked as if he agreed. Neither did it help that his wife appeared unwilling to share her umbrella with him. It took the elder President Bush, the man Mr Clinton defeated in 1992, to lift the spirits with a series of warm-hearted memories about one of the most gifted politicians he said he had come across. “Trust me, I learnt the hard way,” he joked.

We had the same Texas storm in Oklahoma and I sure wouldn't have wanted to be sitting out in the rain. Kind of poetic justice that it was a "TEXAS" storm that soaked the event since both Bush's hail from Texas.

God has a sense of humor

Says it all -

gotta love it! (Actually, He does sometimes use His tools of weather as a blessing - or a message. Wonder if Bubba go it?)

Actually, the message may have been for us - to let us know that He is not fooled...He has been watching, and is in control. Be comforted...

Wonder if some of the glizterati go a little shiver from more than just the rain?

Too bad it didn't rain quite hard enough to wash his library down the river.

Well, from the Independent Counsel's report, we know they won't have trouble closing the coffin. However, it will be difficult for the mortician to wipe the smile off Bill's face.

I was really sick at my stomach listening to my president drone on about the qualities of a rapist.

$165 million and it still looks like a trailer up on blocks. The #1 question asked by most of the visitors will be where's the blue dress?

Why am I not surprised? Good job, Texas, getting that rain over there on time.
