In the popular culture everybody remembers this as advice from Don Vito Corleone to his son, but there are some who attribute it to Machiavelli. In either case, Italian, though not quite so Badabing-ian in the latter.

I've also seen a claim this actually originated with Sun Tzu in The Art of War, which would make it even more ironic and fitting.
