More than three million will die from AIDS this year, the most in a single year in the 23-year history of the disease, said Tuesday's report by UNAIDS, the joint United Nations program on HIV/AIDS.

That's nothing. The overall population of the planet is what 6 billion? The AIDS number will hit a high of 10% of that before all is said and done and there's not a damn thing anybody will be able to do to stop it.

I'm not an epidemiologist, but does it seem to you that people grow less and less hygienic? Perhaps I am getting old and crotchety.

"With 25.4 million people infected, sub-Saharan Africa is the worst affected region. AIDS is stabilizing in the region as the number of people being infected equals those dying of AIDS. "
How comforting...

Except for innocent children, and those receiving tainted blood, I believe death is the best and final cure for this PREVENTABLE disease.

You are exactly correct. As the stigma of premarital sex is diminished so is the stigma of multiple partners over a given time. People jump from bed to bed like lice.
It's disgusting.

Its normal these statsistics to increase each year, no?
Especially since this largely avoidable disease is not immediately fatal - thanks to the millions of dollars we have thrown at the disease.

Anyone have an opinion on whether the US or the "world community" has an obligation or an incetive to help fight the spread?

We don't owe anybody anything concerning AIDS. However, the international and mostly American homosexual community that politically stopped the immediate quarrentine of all those infected in the early 80s when it could have been stopped dead in its tracks does owe them all everything.

We have an incentive to stop the spread of AIDS/HIV within our OWN borders, yes. Many innocents are being infected.
We must Quarantine AIDS patients, and quit allowing the the "privacy" to spread this disease. Simply throwing money at the problem will not make it go away, spreaders must be dealt with.
As for other Countries, ignorance is the main factor in the spreading of AIDS/HIV. Money from us will not solve the problem (Live in ignorance, die there as well). Perhaps infected folks from the USA will go help these people?
Immigration from countries with rampant AIDS/HIV should be disallowed without certification that the immigrant is AIDS/HIV free.
These two things should be our only obligation to " help fight the spread of AIDS/HIV.

why do we have so many czars? aren't we a constitutional republic? Good Question, wonder why it didn't come up in the debates? Maybe were all still peasants.
~or~
Because czar's never did anything for the common man in past history and the same will go for modern history.
"a czars is a czars"
Hmmmmm....Maybe we can make Czars Cars and sell them to Government officals around the world.
