MINEOLA (CBS) Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon has announced the break-up of a scheme to sell confidential patient information from a local hospital.
Seven employees of the Nassau University Medical Center are arrested, charged with taking the personal information of patients coming in my emergencies and selling them. It's believed they peddled the information to a so-called distributor, who would then sell it off to lawyers for as much as $5,000 a patient.
It's believed those lawyers would then contact the patients, expecting to be hired for a lawsuit.

The system can not afford to write blank checks for plaintiffs' awards. That's what we're paying for, and that's why we can't afford health care.
Well, at least it's nice to see the legal and medical profession cooperating for once. (sarcasm)
