Today marks the long-awaited, speculated-about, unabashed return of Steve Dallas to comics pages. While he's a bit older, he certainly is no wiser, according to cartoonist Berkeley Breathed's publicist.
Breathed has received hundreds of letters and e-mails requesting Steve's comeback since Opus began a year ago.

I know I am not the only Bloom County fan around here. When I read them for the first time when I was around 10 or 11 was when I first realized that politics could be cool.
AAAAAAACCK!
I was watching Second Hand Lions and thought the artwork looked familiar, the credits revealed it was Breathed.
I believe you're thinking of Cathy.
At the end of Bloom County, didn't Steve admit he was gay and leave town with his new flame? I seem to recall a comic strip where the two were discussing whether or not to have kids.
Hopefully, Steve's story at the end of Bloom County will turn out to have all been a dream, ala "Dallas."
God I love Bloom County. Berkely Breathed is a genius. I really miss that strip. I never really followed Outlands that much, I missed the other characters from Bloom County.
A cartoonist that shows that you can be political and funny at the same time without being mean spirited.
I've been greatly disappointed with Opus. Berthard seems to have lost his sense of humor and wallows in disdain for conservative perspectives.
THPPPFFTTT!
Does this mean Billy & The Boingers are going to reunite?
Opus is not as compelling as Bloom County was.
It lacks the simple humor.
To me Opus comes off as serious and in some cases obscure.
Unless he brings back Milo, Binkley and the critters it'll be as half hearted as Outland was.
Noooooo, not at all. His last appearance was after he had found a new comic strip home (he appeared in a panel of a "Cathy" cartoon that Breathed put in).
"You Stink But I Love You" is a classic.
Now if we could only get him to bring about the return of Bill the Cat, Hodge-Podge, Portnoy, Milo, Binkley, Oliver and the rest, and rename the strip "Bloom County", I would be happy.
I'm guessing Breathed is a lefty, but he seems to play it right down the middle in his work. Funny how my favorite characters right from the beginning were Steve, Portnoy and Hodge Podge.
why does he not just re-start Bloom Co.? That's what everyone wants anyway
So what happened with the whole "Steve is gay" storyline? Has it been totally forgotten for the sake of continuity?
I wish your version of what happened to Steve at the end was correct, but Breathed tells a different story in this interview.

That was pretty much my point.
