Still the Boss

...“We’ve got to take the country back,” Clinton mused, “beginning right here with this little bit of blue in a sea of red.”

Thousands braved a driving rain in Little Rock to celebrate the opening Thursday of the William J. Clinton Presidential Center. Locals think the rectangular building looks like a double-wide trailer on stilts, but architecture critics, a snobby bunch, give it rave reviews. Clinton wanted a building bathed in light and transparent, an apt metaphor for a president whose public and private life was laid bare before the public. He noted that the London Economist called the futuristic structure a “glorified house trailer.” Shrugging off the slight, he said with a smile, “That’s me—a little red, a little blue.”

The Washington establishment laughed at the Arkansans who came to town a dozen years ago with the Clintons, but they’re not laughing anymore. Clinton’s ability to connect with God-fearing, gun-toting, rural America carried him to victory in two presidential races. Democrats who made the pilgrimage to Little Rock this week are looking to Clinton to help lead them once again out of the wilderness. “This is good therapy,” says Clinton spokesman Jim Kennedy. “We’ve been through anger and denial. This is part of the healing process.”

When Clinton won in ’92, strategist James Carville said the Democrats didn’t break the Republican lock on the Electoral College, “we just picked it.” Democrat John Kerry, because of who he is—a liberal senator from the northeast—forfeited much of the country to Bush. The challenger ran a campaign targeted to a handful of states, almost all of which he had to win. Kerry apologists defend the strategy. If 70,000 votes in Ohio had gone the other way, Kerry would have been elected, they argue.

> “We’ve got to take the country back,”

This pretty much says everything anyone needs to know
about so-called Democrats.

What they want to "take" is political power, and in a
democracy, it is GIVEN (by the voters) and not taken,
as in some dictatorship coup.

"Clinton’s ability to connect with God-fearing, gun-toting, rural America carried him to victory in two presidential races."

Lying POS. Klintoon won a plurality of votes because H. Ross Perot with his "Giant Sucking Sound" sucked some votes from Bush 41 and Bob Dole. No other reason, period.

What is this 70,000 vote margin crap? More like twice that. These fools are nauseating.

“We all love her (Hitlery) to death, but 47 percent of the country hates her,” says a former Clinton aide. “They could just destroy her. Every time they put her name on a piece of direct mail, they clean up. Can we afford to go in with somebody that divisive?”

I think 47% is a little low. More like 60% or more.
