Following the general convergence in Romanian politics, there is not a huge difference between the two main political blocs. Both see membership of the European Union, tentatively scheduled for 2007, as the key foreign policy objective.

Romania's economy is growing fast, but poverty is widespread However, the DA Alliance is projecting a more business-friendly image; and its policy includes the introduction of a flat-rate corporation and income tax at 16%.

But there is a more intriguing prospect, if Mr Tudor's Greater Romania Party, though much weakened, emerges in a position to hold the balance of power.

Mr Tudor has gone out of his way for over a year now to shed his xenophobic image, primarily by taking pro-Jewish and pro-Israeli initiatives.

So its the Clash of Social Democrats vs DA alliance vs Greater Romania Party (I think thats whats going on I might be a bit wrong and confused.)

Personally I m a bit puzzled I dont want a Nationalist in there even a reformed nationalist... They want to 'reclaim' moldavia and parts of ukraine into the fold... So I m a bit biased, but considering the Ukranian election is so entertaining this might turn out to be as well.

Place your bets.

Romania and Moldavia it is the same thing. Joining to Romania, it would be smart move of the Moldavians. Only problem is Transdniestr, IMO may become part of the Ukraine. As I know population there is around 30% for each groups, Moldavians, Ukrainians and Russians. That is why it is so hard to decide.

Guess Soros will be king of Eastern Europe and we will have even less support. Watch him take Bulgaria and they will refuse US posts there too. Why are people so stupid to think Soros represents Angl-Saxon West, just because it's the "West"? He represents the Franco-Germanic-Spanish West and that's no friend of ours. Stupid is as stupid does, just push the right key-word/phobia buttons and people will give their souls to defend Soros' plans.
