But a court judged it was too American to compete in French film festivals, including Cannes.

They've got a point. F9/11 was a very French-oriented film.

No surrender scenes? No backstabbing betrayals? Not enough whining?

...too American to compete...

Filled with freshly-showered and shaved people, I guess.

So this is what the French Judicial system is like? And these cheese eating surrender monkeys want a world court?

Will the World Court make rulings about the Tony Awards?

A cannibal went into the butcher shop to buy some brains for dinner. She saw that American and British brains were $4.95 per lb and French brains were $450.00 per lb. She gasped and asked the butcher if the price of the French brains were a misprint.
"No ma'm," answered the butcher. "That is the correct price." "Well, why are the French brains so expensive?" exclaimed the cannibal. "Do you know how many French it takes to get a pound of brains?" replied the butcher.

Q: How many generations does it take to learn ingratitude?
A: Trois

Q: Why do the French call their fighter the "Mirage"?
A: Because it's never seen in a combat zone.

Not French enough means actually watchable for more than, say, a few microseconds.

from the article :

France is staunchly protective of its cinema and goes to great lengths to avoid the influence of Hollywood.

Which is why the French made films enjoy such worldwide box office success.

Save the world keep the french in France.

The french are laughably silly. I once tried to buy a french-made computer hardware product for a research study here in the US. The company rejected our purchase order because it did not use the proper language for the delivery address. When we tried to change the PO to their liking, they refused to sell to us because it wasn't done correctly the first time. It gave me such pleasure to get their sales director on the phone and tell him what a total idiot he was and how I would enjoy changing the study requirements to not allow any future purchase of their inferior french products.

I believe this deficiency (low degree of Frenchness) could be easily and cheaply corrected by spraying isobutyric acid (or any more sophisticated body odor essences) in the movie halls before film screening.

It's really about money, the competitors dont want French subsidy money going to this project. Understandable, but not good for the nation.
