New French AIDS Vaccine Shows Promise in Suppressing Virus

A new AIDS vaccine that is used to treat the disease is able to suppress the virus for at least one year, say researchers of a small trial.

You can read about this preliminary study in Nature Medicine. It is being called the first demonstration of an efficient therapeutic vaccine against AIDS.

18 volunteers were involved in the trial. They were all infected with HIV. The trial was carried out in Brazil. None of the volunteers had been taking antiviral drugs. Four months after taking the experimental vaccine their levels of HIV (in the bloodstream) had gone down 80%.

8 of the volunteers experienced a 90% drop of the HIV in their bloodstream - four of them had much lower levels.

This new vaccine has the potential of keeping infected patients healthy. It could be a good alternative to the present combination of drugs people have to take.

The plan with this new vaccine is to give a patient one injection a year. This should be enough to stop the infection from becoming a problem.

This investigation was carried out by Dr Jean-Marie Andrieu, Institute of Research for Vaccines and Immunotherapies for Cancer and AIDS, Paris, France.

Researchers said the only detectable side-effect is a painless swelling of the lymph nodes. They say the lymph node swelling shows that the immune system has been kicked into action.

They could not explain why the vaccine did not work for everyone. They said further studies were needed.

I am highly skeptical of that statement. Every treatment has side effects. Sometimes you just have to wait a while, because they're not immediately apparent.

Good for the French! Now it is time to make good on their bashing of Bush for giving 15 Billion over 5-years to Africa and anty-up out of the goodness of their "Black" Hearts. Should they not give this freely to those in need, then the entire world needs to demand they do so!

"I am highly skeptical of that statement. Every treatment has side effects"

So am I.
I make it a policy never to trust anything the French have to say on anything, without at least quadruple checks, and even then watch out for even more French sleazy tricks.
Plus this story is from the French loving San Francisco Chron.
"nuff said.

Better to promote US developed vaccines any day.

Just don't open your legs. Best "vaccine" on the market.

That's not generally how AIDS is transmitted. Just don't rump ride would be more accurate.

As for vaccines so deviants can continue being deviant, it won't work. Some new "virus" will probably develop sooner or later. It's an unclean practice plain and simple.

This should be the French's vaccine for AIDS. I leave you, the dear reader, to puzzle out where it goes.

Gee!

That solves everything as we all know AIDS infected carriers will no longer transmit AIDS to others as they live much longer with the Frenchie vaccine -

I wonder why we cannot just extend the life of cattle with Anthrax and Mad Cow Disease!

That would solve everything - if we kept those cattle 100% isolated from all other cattle and forms of life.......

Compare the number of Americans killed by Anthrax and Mad Cow Disease and the number or Americans killed by AIDS every year.

I guess cattle just aren't "PC" evough or PETA does not stick up for cattle like the ACLU sticks up for homosexuals........

I heard the other day that abstinence works pretty well and has no side effects...
