Jury urged to make Islamic charities pay

CHICAGO (AP) — Lawyers for the family of an American teenager gunned down in Israel's West Bank urged a jury Wednesday to make U.S.-based Islamic groups pay millions of dollars in damages for allegedly helping finance terrorism.

"The international terrorist group Hamas has some of its biggest supporters right here in the United States," Richard M. Hoffman, attorney for the family of the slain teen, said in the penalty phase of a civil trial against several Islamic groups and an alleged Hamas fund-raiser.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Arlander Keys ruled earlier this month that Hamas was responsible for the shooting of 17-year-old David Boim at a West Bank bus stop in May 1996. Keys also ruled that alleged Hamas fund-raiser Mohammed Salah, the Holy Land Foundation and the Islamic Society for Palestine are liable for damages.

Parents Stanley and Joyce Boim, who moved to Jerusalem in 1985, filed the suit under a federal law permitting American victims of terrorism overseas to seek damages against organizations that raise funds for terrorists in the U.S.

The jury must now decide how much the defendants should pay and whether another group, the Quranic Literacy Institute, is also liable for damages.

All the defendants deny financing terrorism. Only the Quranic institute had lawyers in court Wednesday, but the group's attorney, John Beal, said he would not take part in the proceedings.

"QLI can refute every inference and statement that the plaintiffs claim create liability, but we don't have time to put the case together," Beal said afterward.

One of those rare instances, where I'm actually on the side of the trial lawyers and hoping for a huge damage award.

Muslims think that Americans are suckers. They raise funds right here in our backyard and then fund the "Big Boys" who carry out the murder of infidels.

Rest assured that to the great Allah---all the financial contibutors right here in the US are going straight to Heaven.

I'm usually of the opinion that "500 laywers at the bottom of the ocean is nothing but a good start"...but this guy....this guy I LIKE!!! At least I like him on THIS case.

"The international terrorist group Hamas has some of its biggest supporters right here in the United States"

It has also been reported that after 9/11, there was a link on the CAIR website that advised to "click here to donate to the NY/DC victims of the horrible attack" And that instead of going to those victims, the donations were going overseas to the Hamas group.

They can say that they are a religion of peace all they want. I still don't have to believe a word of it..and I don't. A lot of people said Kerry was a patriotic American too...and that was the biggest piece of Bull anyone ever tried to feed me...I didn't take a single bite though, I'm happy to say. And 60,000,000 Americans didn't believe it either.

So here's how we defeat the Muslims - we aim our lawyers at them, and pull the trigger...

Although I agree with you, unfortunately there is one American who believes both of these things and he lives on Pennsylvania Ave.

Sorry..just the sad facts.

It will be marvellous if they do win, as this will set a precedent and means that Christian Peace Activists in Israel who have been attacked by Settlers who are funded by US-based Charities and Funderaisers can be prosecuted!
This means that the USA Peace Activists who were recently attacked in Hebron can claim compensation through US courts for their injuries, and perhaps US citizen Rachel Corrie's parents will see some compensation for the loss of their daughter.

What I meant to write is now edited to read:
It will be marvellous if they do win, as this will set a precedent and means that Christian Peace Activists in Israel who have been attacked by Settlers who are funded by US-based Charities and Funderaisers can NOW BRING PROSECUTIONS (against the charities that fund the Settlers not be prosecuted themselves!)

This means that the USA Peace Activists who were recently attacked in Hebron can claim compensation through US courts for their injuries, and perhaps US citizens Rachel Corrie's Parents will now see some compensation for the loss of their daughter.

sorry about the mistake!
