Major League Baseball's owners voted today to approve the relocation of its Montreal franchise to Washington for the 2005 season despite a lone objection from Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos.
The owners voted 29-1 in favor of the move in a conference call today. The approval is contingent on District officials meeting the conditions of the deal they struck with baseball to provide a new stadium on the Anacostia River. The final vote on the stadium deal -- which has come under constant scrutiny since MLB announced its intentions to move here in September -- is scheduled for Dec. 14.

despite a lone objection from Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos.Poor baby... now he'll actually need to spend some money.
Does that mean we can look forward to SCOTUS ruling on a close play at first?
I guess as a life-long Oriole fan I should be ticked. My disgust for Angelos, however, is stronger and I say the heck with him. The fact is, D.C. had baseball long before Baltimore did. What the O's need is a competent owner who will provide a competitive team that will continue to draw fans from the D.C. area.

What if the Supreme Court rules this move unconsitutional?
Extra innings for MLB.
Maybe the Expos will not be able to keep all the talent they develop.
My thoughts exactly.
I can't stand Angelos so I no longer support the O's.
Well, Baltimore had a team back in 1882. I don't think D.C. had one until 1884.
I'm not sure where the stadium stands at this moment, but the last I heard (a week or so ago) the stadium plan was having problems at the city council. If there isn't a new stadium, will MLB look for another locale?
Did Baltimore have a major league team that far back?
I still pull for the O's, but their being in the same division with the Yanks and Red Sox makes it a moot point.
IMHO, Dubya should intervene and award the franchise to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Ditto from the Eastern Shore.
I don't know. I have no idea how baseball teams are bought and sold.
Doesn't Baltimore usually have one of the larger payrolls in baseball, and yet an over .500 season is an achievement for them?
Alfred Bell may be an example!
