Explode, like Daffy Duck did when he was desperate to get attention? Heck, it might have been the most enertaining he'd been in years if he had...

Elton changes tune over Bush
By Alexa Baracaia, Evening Standard

Sir Elton John is famed for his outbursts and diva-ish tantrums. So when he was invited to a presidential reception, hosted by George W Bush, the organisers must have been praying the Rocket Man would not explode.

Two weeks ago Sir Elton hit out at the US president, saying he was "the worst thing that has ever happened to America".

"I just wanna scream," he said. "It's a nightmare. These idiots think they can get away with anything ... it enrages me that people can just smirk their way through it."

But the 57-year-old entertainer managed to keep his cool when he met Mr Bush in person. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that the party had been organised in his honour.

Sir Elton was one of six entertainment legends to be honoured for their lifetime's contribution to American culture at the 27th Annual Kennedy Center Awards.

Actor Warren Beatty, Australian soprano Dame Joan Sutherland, Star Wars and Jaws composer and conductor John Williams, and husband-andwife actors, writers and producers Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee were also honoured.

The award "is about the icing on the cake", said Sir Elton, who has sold more than 60 million albums in his 30-year career. "It's incredible for someone who's British to be given such an accolade from America."

Elton, don't say anything in public unless Bernie Taupin writes it, okay?

Bush, IMHO, should have found something else do to, like go back to Crawford for a day to clear brush..or to housebreak the new puppy..

The fact is that you treat the President with the proper respect, despite whether you agree with him or not. It's not unusual that in a private meeting with a President those meeting him may respectfully discuss their disagreements, but in a large gathering, you bite your tongue and treat him accordingly. EJ did just that. In a week or so he'll be blaming the President for pollution in the Ukraine, or for natural disasters, etc.

Bush received more votes than Elton has sold albums.

Elton John has no class, such as he showed in Taiwan a month ago. In fact, all these people last night were undeserving of any awards and are hate America leftists; like Ossie Davis.

Think of the people that have more than one Elton album. You can only vote for Bush once.

Ossie Davis was a communist at one time. Talk about mainstreaming the Reds.

I have NO Elton John albums, and voted for GW twice (2000 and 2004).

Whatever - as long as they do not insult or demean the office of President of the U.S. Bush totally honors that office and he expects others to do the same - rightfully so.
