Its application in making recombinant vaccines and recombinant insulin for treating diabetes has been a great success.In agriculture, a number of the applications of biotechnology in clonal micro-propagation of plants have been successful. Propagation of seedlings for re-forestation, fruit trees, and floriculture has been a tremendous contribution. The problems have come in its application to make transgenic food items. The announcement by a company regarding its capability to produce seeds containing terminator genes caused quite a negative stir against biotechnology by many people in Africa.
