Norway is the country that invented the paper clip. Now comes commercial production of a special screw that can be implanted in a special screwdriver and won't slide off. Inventor Jone Edland (left) and his nephew Odd-Jone Linnebo have found their first customers. Both the screw and the screwdriver are the product of Norwegian Jone Edland, who already has won several prizes for his invention. It's taken him years, though, to get the product to market. "Now things are happening," Edland's nephew and business partner Odd-Jone Linnebo told newspaper Aftenposten on Tuesday, noting that it's taken an unexpectedly long time to begin to see the fruits of his labours. Around 15 million of the screws, which look like an inverted phillips-head type with six points, are now being produced in Taiwan after an importer in Finland placed an order worth NOK 10 million (about USD 1.6 million). The Finnish importer will deliver the screws, called Ttap, to Finland's largest building supply chains, Kesko and Starkki. Edland has worked with screws for several decades, both at Norwegian firm Mustad (best known for its fish hooks) and as an independent consultant. He stands only to get a modest licensing fee from the producer, but with a screw market valued at nearly USD 2 billion a year, large-scale production can provide solid income. Both Edland and Linnebo hope the screw will soon be available in Norwegian stores as well.

This is false.
The most common type of wire paperclip was never patented, but it was probably in production in Britain as early as 1890 by "The Gem Manufacturing Company" ... A Norwegian, Johan Vaaler, patented a less functional version in 1899 and 1901, but it was never manufactured because a better product already existed. Most literature usually but falsely credits him with the invention of the Gem-type clip. Awareness that a Norwegian had invented some kind of paperclip gave rise to the persistent myth that the paper clip was a Norwegian invention.
Anyone else have a nephew that's "Odd"?

As an auto mechanic and a teletypewriter repairman over a 25yr. span, I've always found a dab of grease on the end of a screwdriver or in a socket accomplishes this task very well.
I know I saw Bob Villa hocking it on TV.
I ALWAYS put a dab of grease on my thingie before I screw....

Orhtopedic surgeons have been using a modified Phillips screwdriver for many years. It has a special tip to securely hold the screw to the tip. How many times have you started a screw only to have it fall out before getting a good bite? The last thing a surgeon wants to do is have to start digging into your thigh for a lost screw when he is screwing your femur back into place after some tragic accident.
