the different types of screws that my spine surgeons use are pretty cool. they are self straightening, you feel a "click" when they are in right. then when you pay alot of money for each screw, they better be cool.

I was referring to an old, old episode of This Old House where he was in Florida, I believe, and he walked past a tree with some Virginia Creeper growing up the trunk. He put out his hand to a leaf a said what's this? The guy he was with said "That's poison ivy, Bob"......I don't know if the guy really thought it was poison ivy or he was pulling Bob's leg.......

I thought he was dead...... Nah, there was a thread last week about his arrest for trying to steal books on colitis or somesuch.
He is/was working as a greeter at some deli in NYC, iirc.

I'll stick with Robertsons. Robertson screws are probably the greatest invention, other than instant mashed potatos, to come out of Canada.

Instant Mashed Potatoes came from Canada?

"Canadian, Edward A. Asselbergs invented instant mashed potatoes (dehydrated potato flakes) in 1962."
That was before the Candians became dependant on the country to the south. When was the last time you heard anything being invented in Canada?

I'll stick with Robertsons. For hand work.
Automakers use a variation on the Phillips that helps robots detect and cam out when the fastener is "correct".

Magnetized tips for drivers have been around a long time too.

Now, I have another reason to dislike instant potatoes. Only REAL mashed potatoes will do.......

My Dad had phillips and flat blade screwdrivers that had spring steel side clips that held screws to the tip of the screwdriver back when I was a child. (I have them now).
He also had flat blade screwstarters for small screws that had a center piece that turned and held the screw on the blade.
It looks like in the illustration that the center piece may actually be a magnet. Works as long as the screws are steel, and not aluminum.

And don't forget this, Gen. George S. Patton called it "the greatest implement of battle ever devised." While not invented IN Canada, it was Invented by a Canadian.

I have a straight screwdriver that has a split blade right up the shank. It has a slide device on the shank that separates the blade to hold slotted screws. Neat item.
