I'm reminded of something our pastor taught us during bible study for confirmation. You are closest to God just after birth and just before death. It's all the time in the middle that gets us in trouble.

Similiar to the 'no atheists in foxholes' idea? Although I said that once to a former Marine (WWII), and he said, "OH, but there are! I was next to two of them!"
