VILNIUS (Reuters) - Lithuanian border guards have unearthed a three-kilometer (2-mile) pipeline for smuggling in moonshine liquor from neighboring Belarus, the guards said on Friday.
The thin plastic pipeline, buried a few centimeters underground, ran under several roads, along a riverbed and ended next to the home of a Lithuanian citizen...
It was the fourth such pipeline discovered in the last two years but by far the longest. Moonshine vodka from Belarus is sold on the black market in Lithuania, undercutting prices of legitimate alcohol that have risen sharply since the Baltic nation joined the European Union in May.

My grandfather, a Lituanian immigrant to NY, used to make "bathtub booze" on the old family property. He mentioned that he had learned the recipe from old friends of his in the old country of Belarus.

He preferred beer ("ALOS"). "Schvei-kaat-us, y'all".
We make krupnikas (sp?) every Christmas season. It's a family tradition. Of course we we start of with already made Everclear.
My mother--100% Lithuanian--doesn't remember much language, but she thinks krupnikas is a form of egg nog. ????
Does anyone know a few good reasons to join the EU? I don't.
I love to see supply-and-demand at work. No doubt these same enterpreneurs already have a better-concealed pipeline up and running.
i dont think high taxation on alcohol is a requirement for joining the EU.
Funny how people are the same all over the world.
My grandaddy, here in Appalachia, made moonshine during prohibition.
You can still see craters dug out in the hills where the stills were.
My Daddy ran the stuff in a souped up car back in the 1950s (not Grandpas shine) when liqoir was still unlawful in these parts.
People will find a way to get their spirits.
WOW!!!! How cool is that!?
Let me put my face underneath it and OPEN THE SPIGOT WIDE!!!!!
I was raised on bathtub vodka made by my Belarussian relatives.
It cures what ails ya'!
Krupinkas in egg nog? Good idea. Personally, I like it straight up or in coffee.
The fellow was just taking his vodka intraVilniusly....
As a good Litvak myself, the Krupnikas I enjoy is a honey liqueur, not egg nog. Maybe it would go well IN egg nog. I really don't know...
