Celebrate International Peace Day Fly a Giant Peace Dove Puppet to Say “Peace is Possible”
The Jane Goodall Institute ^ | Jane Goodall

Dear friend,

On September 21st of every year, the International Peace Day, people around the globe express their desire for a world where war and violence are things of the past and we live in harmony with the natural world. The Giant Peace Dove puppets – flown by young people and the young at heart in cities, towns, and villages near and far – are a symbol and celebration of this yearning for peace.

I hope you will choose to be a part of this special day. Last year, peace doves “flew” in 23 countries. Many were flown by our wonderfully active and creative Roots & Shoots groups. Doves flew in peace marches, on top of mountains and buildings, in parks, along waterways, at the Coliseum in Rome and in a refugee camp in Tanzania. Albanian and Kosovan children flew two peace doves on the bridge over the Ibar River that separates their two ethnic groups. Palestinian Arab and Israeli Jewish children flew a giant peace dove in Nazareth. A peace dove even served as a huppha at a wedding in California. This year we hope to see even more doves flying all around the globe. With these humble creations made out of recycled materials we remind everyone of the truth they sometimes forget – that peace is possible. We celebrate all that is free and noble in the human spirit. And we celebrate all that so many people have done throughout the year – and will do next year – to create a better world. I do hope you will join this worldwide community today. Your participation means so much. I want each of you to know that I firmly believe that your prayers and wishes for peace will one day be answered.

Love,

Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE Founder, Jane Goodall Institute UN Messenger of Peace

It's not killing that creates peace it is killing the disruptors of the peace that works.....

Peace Through Superior Freaking Firepower!

The only other possible way to peace is to sufficiently humiliate the enemy that they're so ashamed that they kill themselves. Making them wear ladies underpants on their heads at Abu Ghraib was a good start and it's too bad it couldn't continue.

These fools and their stupid ideas, like "War Is Not the Answer". The morons haven't ever walked around the block enough to even know the damn question.

I'm raising polecats for peace!

Well, actually the polecats are eating the food I put out for my cat. But I figure I don't have any choice and may as well make the best of it. After all peace is such a wonderful thing- certainly worth a little extra cat food.

In reply, first thank you for your bravery and service to our country. Second, I like most people, also believe war should be the last card in the deck, so please don't take me for a loud mouthed combatant.

I do believe, however, that sometimes war IS a viable answer to bring about some measure of peace in the world. For some peoples, who believe as our enemies do, war and death is all they know. For those nations and the terrorists they support, we must be prepared to oblige them. In these times I think people, especially those within our own borders should be toeing the line for "Victory" rather than "Peace at minimal cost"

Unfortunately, most of the citizens that are not "toeing the line" have started to take their freedom for granted...and will stoop to any level to make sure they get to use them whether they are wrong or not...but for a soldier it hurts us more than ever to see our fellow citizens outwardly show disloyal stand on the war we are in...what ever happened to devout PATRIOTISM....

When our enemies stop flying planes loaded with innocent men, women, and children into buildings full of innocent civilians, THEN I may be ready to embrace peace.

When our enemies stop blowing huge holes in our ships anchored in neutral ports, THEN I may be ready to embrace peace.

And when our enemies stop beheading innocent people in the name of their fascist pseudo-religion, THEN I may be ready to embrace peace.

Until then, the only peace I have for them is that eternal peace that comes from superior firepower.

Dear Dr. Jane,

Is there any hope that those dove puppets are extremely flammable? Please? I ask merely out of curiosity, of course...

P.S. - (oh, never mind - it had to do with you, chimpanzees, and bestiality)

They should put a white straightjacket on to symbolize that they're loco.
