"We are going to attempt to move those vehicles immediately, even if it's just off the freeway to a safe location," said Ken Ulmer, president of A-1 Towing, which holds the towing contracts for parts of the Katy Freeway. "For that towing fee of $75, we would change the tire for the consumer."

Or you could stay the hell away from me for the five minutes it takes me to change my own damn tire.

I do think this will end up being a real issue.

I can just see it: Xenalyte is driving down the road minding her own business when "BANG! Flop-flop-flop-flop..." the tire blows out, and she pulls over to the side of the road. Without hesitation, she gets out, sees the flat, and hurries to the trunk to get the jack and spare. Within three minutes, the car is jacked up, the flat is off, and she is just about to put the new tire on when a vulture in a bright yellow truck pulls up behind her.

What the hell are they going to do? Use physical force to stop her from finishing the task? Assist her in completing the task and then charge her $75? Try to attach the tow truck to the vehicle anyway and drag it with one tire missing?

Everyone with car problems will suddenly be acting like an amateur NASCAR pit crew.

Isn't Texas a right to carry state?

I see a lot of trouble coming out of all this, with much abuse coming from the tow truck companies. I rarely ever have $75 on me. I wonder if they will take the cars to a designated area only, or if you prefer, just to the next exit, maybe to a parking lot? Will they also give you a ride?
I see some good from this, however. But being told you cannot change your own tire. Something tells me there is trouble brewing.
I'm just glad I do not live there.
