Here in Missouri we have what are called "Motor Assists" that drive the highways in loaded pickup trucks. They change your tires, give you some gas, whatever you need. They are staffed by trained mechanics and it doesn't cost you a dang thing.
Sounds like the line needs to be said...."Houston, you have a problem."
same thing in LA. I think the Houston program was developed by ENRON
I don't like this new law in Houston, but luckily I don't drive to Houston very often.
However, if you say that in Missouri and L.A. you recieve this service free, I would have to guess that you are deluding yourselves. Unless you have some billionaire benefactor doing this out of the kindness of his heart, you are paying for it with your taxes, whether you use the service or not. At least in Houston, it is only those that are actually forced to use the service that must pay.
Two thoughts...we don't have state or local income taxes in Texas to pay for such "free" programs, and we like it that way. Also, I have never seen a "free" government funded program that is worth the actual amount paid for it.
Sounds to me that Missouri believes in helping it's citizens whereas Houston seems more interested in screwing them.
We have those here on Long Island, too. The H.E.L.P. crews. I've never had to use one, but it's always nice to see them riding on the highways.
