What if you have AAA?

Depends on the rules of the road, so to speak.

My car once broke down on the NJ Turnpike, which is a state owned, toll road. When I tried to get AAA help, I was informed that they were not allowed to service the NJ Turnpike (this was back around 1987). I was able to get a partial reimbursal from AAA though.

Actually, I wonder what would happen if you were changing a flat, and the wrecker were to arrive as you were finishing, but the wrecker operator insisted that he tow your car... That could lead to all sorts of problems.
