Washington, DC, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- AARP, the big lobby for older U.S. residents, plans to spend $5 million on a two-week ad campaign against a White House plan to privatize Social Security.

"This is our signature issue," said Christine M. Donohoo, chief communications officer for AARP, which represents 36 million Americans 50 and older. "We will do what it takes."

The full-page newspaper ads will begin appearing next week in 50 papers around the nation, warning that private Social Security accounts would be nothing but "Social Insecurity," the New York Times reported Thursday.

AARP in EACH STATE

...AARP members and those close to joining AARP (you can join when you're 55)...LET THESE "LEADERS" KNOW you support partial privatization! And let them know you DON'T believe their hype.

I will let AARP know in no uncertain terms that I am close enough to being of age to joining their organization, and I do NOT believe the bile that they're trying to hoist upon their constituents!

I've been "of age" for quite some time and never have and never will join that leftist group. They don't represent anything I want or need.

AARP is delusional.

Instead of having power in government and in the stock market they side with the dying democrat party.

IMAGINE investing in AARP seal of approval mutual funds.
IMAGINE AARP books and education seminars.

THEY COULD EXPAND BEYOND THEIR WILDEST DREAMS instead they choose to contraction and socialism.

stupid stupid stupid.

The AARP is simply pure, unadulterated evil. It has no redeeming qualities.

I will never join them after their dispicable behavior duringn the budget battles of 1995.

What a bunch of self-centered sh!ts.

Screw them. I hope they fade into irrelevancy.

I've seen the AARP website and forum. Barking mad left wingers all over the place. No use talking to them.

Social Security reform shouldn't be about enriching AARP or any other special interest group. If AARP were to profit from reform, it would probably be at the taxpayer's expense.

What an idjit! Doesn't she realize that she's advocating the reduction of income for the next generation! If those folks are allowed to put some of their money away, and it grows, they will be larger consumers in their old age, and can afford to take the trips and buy the goods hawked by the AARP. Terribly short sighted of the AARP in my opinion.

I've been getting mail from then since I turned 50 last year. They won't be getting any money from me.

They represent the currently retired. The he** with the young workers who won't have anything when they retire. Selfish pigs!

Actually, they are screwing those who are currently retired who also have savings invested in mutual funds.

Social Security privatization will drive prices on the market higher.

I'm not sure AARP's hired "leadership" has thought this one through very well. Maybe it's because they're all lawyers.

This is exactly why I won't join AARP when I'm 55. To h*ll with their hotel and drug discounts. This was originally the AA of Retired Teachers. If I want politics, I'll support the party and issues of my choice.

You can do better than that.
Take it to your folks and your grandfolks on why it should be privatized.
You have more pull than a group or politicians.
I did it over Christmas.

Thank-you for posting this. I just sent my state chapter a blistering e-mail about how they have destined all the youth in this country to confiscation of their wages without retribution. I even told them to go to hell.

Some one will scream at me, but this is about AARP and I'm not trying to change the subject. I agree with all the posters sentiments about AARP for many reasons. While everyone is contacting them, ask them why they contribute to leftist, racist organizations such as MALDEF.

BRONZE PARTNERS: $1,000 ú $9,999
AARP
Abbott Laboratories Fund
The Abernathy/McGregor Group
AFL-CIO
The Ahmanson Foundation
AIG Invesment LLC
American Federation of Teachers
Amigas de MALDEF

I have noticed something in life.
EVERY organization that is not explicitly conservative, eventually falls under the control of liberals.

This includes EVERY media source, EVERY magazine, EVERY web site, EVERY professional organization, EVERY school.

It is fascinating to observe. Conservatives can be up-front about their beliefs, but liberals can only advance their views by hi-jacking supposedly neutral oranizations.
