It was just a family choice thing to get rid of a human being so she would not hinder the political ambitions that Joe had for his sons. The result was the institutionalization of a young woman who was mentally killed with a lobotomy, a Kennedy version of convenient Alzheimers and locked in a closet; and the creation of the Special Olympics to salve the Kennedy's collective guilt. It is too bad the Ted could not live up to his father's expectations but had to cheat and drink his way through life and never had the courage to enact the "Bridge Guard Rail Safety Act" to exorcise the demons of Mary Jo.
