What a crock! What about Rather? Mapes is the scapegoat. Sounds like a good sex discrimination case. Fire the female underling, not the male supervisor.

Yep, Rather was at least as culpable as Mapes, and ultimately it was his decision to air the so obviously faked documents. His 'retirement' allows him to leave with dignity, though he deserves no such break. He's a faker, always has been a faker, and will be remembered as a faker.

! What about Rather? Mapes is the scapegoat.

Like the Romans of old, Rather was offered the option of suicide, and he took it.

As for Mapes, she is guilty as hell and deserves to be fired. She, not Rather, did all the legwork for the story.

Wrong. It was her show, she was the producer.
Her name is prominently display during broadcast. She "worked" on this "story" for 5 years. It was she who released the prison photos. She has had a personal vendetta against Bush from day 1. She is no innocent lamb.

Three women taken down along with one token man. Will the MSM take note?

Mapes was no scapegoat believe me, yes Blather should have been canned as well, but Mapes was on a witch-hunt for years to smear Bush.... she's not being scapegoated.

Can it be long before Mapes is hired by CNN. They seem to have a particular propensity for filing false stories.

What about Rather?

Andrew Heyward also should have been one of the first to go.

Remember Rather's hasty follow-up program with Bush's CO's poor elderly secretary, in which he credited her gossipy remembrances and claimed insider status at the time as further "proof" that the CO was unhappy with Bush, and that Bush had not acted properly as a Guard pilot? This, while the woman also clearly stated that the documents were not hers, and were not done on a typewriter she used and were not in proper form. I think she hinted that in her opinion someone probably had reconstructed them from another source that she knew nothing about. That omission of fixing any responsibility for the Rather interview of this Democrat Dame is very glaring, in my view. Are we supposed to forget that little episode ever aired? Not a chance.

MAPES IS NOT A SCAPEGOAT. She is a radical leftist who was in a position she could weld her journalistic power to bring down Bush. I agree, Rather is getting off way to light, with just retirement, He knew what was going on, but we should celebrate Mape's being fired. This is a very bad press-day for CBS, and the end of Dan Rather as a news Mogul. This is a good day.

Dan Rather was not in charge of 60 Minutes. He only has authority over the CBS Evening News.

They should have required him to give an actual apology, but oh well.

Mapes was the producer who ran down the story for years. Ultimately, she is responsible for what she produces. She was not a scapegoat. She was very much in charge.

The producer for 60 Minutes Wednesday that she reported to also was fired.

"What a crock! What about Rather? Mapes is the scapegoat."

Nope. Rather was the face of CBS's lies but Mapes was the source and the mastermind behind the lies. She was the one behind the 'panties on the head' prison scandal and a flaming progressive who absolutely hated, to the point of obsession, BUSH.

She was mostly responsible and hopefully her career as a journalist is over. It certainly is with any news organization who has any claim to objectivity and non partisanship.

Mapes is a true believer who got caught in manipulating news. Rather is a fellow traveler who resigned, or was forced to move on, before the endgame. Truth be told, Rather has an alibi. He's not supposed to filter the news. His producer is. Yes, it's an ugly story.
