Not that anyone had any doubts, but CNN made its stance on the abortion issue crystal clear in the context of an interview by Inside Politics' Judy Woodruff of former U.S. Rep. Tim Roemer of Indiana, who has announced that he is seeking the chairmanship of the DNC.
Unusual for a Democrat, Roemer is pro-life.
But on the two occasions when that fact arose, Woodruff referred to Roemer not as being "pro-life," but as being "opposed to abortion rights for women."
Yet when Woodruff quoted Kate Michelman, former head of NARAL, who condemned Roemer's candidacy, she referred to pro-abortion people as being "pro-choice."
Thus rather than according the two groups the monikers they prefer - pro-life and pro-choice - CNN accorded that favor only to the pro-abortion side, framing the issue exclusively in terms of rights and choice, and casting pro-lifers as people who would deny rights to women.
As an aside, when on a couple occasions Roemer offered his nostrums as to what was necessary to get the Democrat party going again, Woodruff noddingly agreed "we hear you." You almost expected her to whip her DNC membersship card out of her purse and waive it around!
Interesting. In Massachusetts a man must get his wife's permission to get a vasectomy.
Judy Woodruff is pretty close to being the stupidest woman on TV. And that IS saying something.
Term for "pro-abortion rights" should be "pro-infanticide."
The old fashioned term "baby murderer" works for me.
Personally, I like the term "Baby Killers."
"Pretty close"? Both her and that nattering dwarf Couric have to point at the pictures on the menu to order lunch...
True, but by framing things in the way they did, CNN made its own pro abortion bias clear.
"Here are your winnings!"
Why is anyone watching CNN, anyway?
Judy Woodruff should have retired 20 years ago....YUCK!
I thought Freepers watched FNC..... {:^)
How about:
Pro-Life v. Advocates Of the For-Profit Slaughter Of Defenseless Children Despite the Existence of a Surplus of Loving, Eager and Available Adoptive Parents
Different media outlets use different language for controversial topics that are prone to euphemism. A common split for abortion articles is "groups that favor abortion rights" and "groups that oppose abortion rights." It still puts pro-life in the opposition, but at least it's not using the euphemism "choice." Judy Woodruff may be just floating on her own language for this one.
Hey, that's nothing. Most of the time here in Arkansas, the wife is the one performing the vasectomy, whether it's requested or not ! While you're asleep ! That's why a lot of us learn to sleep with one eye open......
Sounds like a legislated pu$$y-whipping.
"They are going by the approved "style book," which all news organizations require their reporters and writers to use. In the book they are directed to use the terms "pro-choice" and "anti-abortion.""
Style book was written by the Associated Press. Didn't realize they had a style for the abortion issue.
You are absolutely correct in your analysis, yet, my friend, you overlooked the far greater implication of this little vignette. After the 2004 loss, some Dems, liek the DLC started once again to raise a few common sense ideas about the Dems needign to broaden their appeal. Dona Brasile had the great quote that she's tired of explaining to her family that "Dems don't want to kill babies". Now comes Roemer, strongly pro-life, dipping a toe into interbal politics, and IMMEDIATELY he gets runout of town by the NARAL mob, and the left-lib media, Judy Woodruff, and George Stephanopolous on Sunday, carry their water and in effect ask him to explain how dare he riun for DNC chair. This closed mindset will guarantee their dcontinues exixstence as an ideologically "pure" minority party for the next 20 years..
Is that really true? & if so, does a woman have to get husband's permission for a tubal ligation?
You do yeoman work watching and reporting on the perky one most mornings...are you gonna watch, and file a report, on Rather tonite?..if so..kindly ping?
