The few decent jurors who show up are bounced right away by the plaintiff's attorney with their preemptory challenges.

Just how many peremptory (not "preemptory") challenges do they get? And don't you get the same amount?

LOL -I can't believe I spelled that wrong. The number of challenges depends on the Judge, type of case, etc...The problem is if each side only gets 5 it's usually enough to knock out the jurors with steady jobs and a cursory education. Hence, the outrageous verdicts.
