I get the groups mixed up, but one of the Meso-American ancient cultures even played soccer with human heads.

I heard that heads or hands were used to play lacrosse...which is why I think that sport is still not mainstream to this day.

Lacrosse .... Jim Brown's favorite sport at Syracuse, although he was pretty good at football too. Basically it was considered practice for inter-tribal warfare so the use of heads or hands of slain enemies is not only believable but appropriate. Every race of mankind has been guilty of savagery at one time or another. It is very good to know what life was actually like in pre-Christian times and in non-Christian societies.

On a loosely related topic, I read Michael Crichton's new book a few weeks ago and I have to admit enjoying picturing Martin Sheen in the role of the delusional actor / TV show president. You'll need to read the book to see the connection with this post, but suffice it to say his last role was a tasty one.
