GOP Sees a Future in Black Churches
Social issues are binding the party with a group once firmly in the Democratic camp.

WASHINGTON Black conservatives who supported President Bush in 2004 and gained new prominence within the Republican Party are launching a loosely knit movement that they hope will transform the role African Americans play in national politics.
The effort will be visible today at the Crenshaw Christian Center, one of Los Angeles' biggest black churches, headed by televangelist Frederick K.C. Price. More than 100 African American ministers are to gather in the first of several regional summits to build support for banning same-sex marriage a signature issue that drew socially conservative blacks to the Republican column last year.
Before the meeting, one prominent minister plans to unveil a "Black Contract With America on Moral Values," a call for Bible-based action by government and churches to promote conservative priorities.

A separate group with ties to Gingrich will announce a similar "Mayflower Compact for Black America" later this month in Washington... the Heritage Foundation will cosponsor a gathering of black conservatives in Washington...

"I am frightened by what is happening," said Rep. Major R. Owens, an 11-term Democratic congressman from New York who has been conferring with colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus. "Our party is in grave danger. This Republican movement is going to expand exponentially unless we do something."

DemocRATS should be afraid---they should be VERY afraid!
That is really telling. Rats are afraid because black preachers want to inform their people about moral values. How very sad.
The black caucus is like a college fraternity. They consider themselves the elite, but are not now in step with a growing number of their "peers". I think they are in for a few surprises in the future.
true...but they also tell them that the Rats have been stringing the black community along for years.
The RATS want the black community to be kept down---so that community will see the rats as their 'only hope'.
And that is REALLY sad......
VERY INTERESTING
Its just a matter of time until they lose their vice grip hold on African Americans. Having been called an "Uncle Tom" myself for daring to be black and a conservative it feels good to read articles like this.
Major Owens is one of the dumbest men on the planet. On the floor of the House, he claimed that 200 million slaves died on the way to America. It changed the ecology of the ocean, and the sharks are still swimming the route.
As long as the GOP continues to embrace non-party members and keeps introducing ideas to help every American, their vote totals among these groups will continue to rise. More importantly, as these ideas are enacted, the lives of these voters will improve.
that sounds about right>..LOL.....let's see, that would have been 10,000 plus voyages and depleted the pop of Afirca at the time.....Jesse sure did a good job brainwashing these folk
Right, or they could pay Al Sharpton to campaign for them. Oh, WAIT that didn't work!

Well, they started losing the rank and file of the Labor Unions in the 80's; now they're losing their hold on the blacks whom they've kept on the political plantation for decades. The Redneck vote is still pretty much 50/50. Bubba likes his gun but still believes what granma told him about he Republicans being for the rich and the Democrats being for the working man. But with a little bit a schoolin'...........

Admire your courage, stay with it.
Well Rep. Owens, your two congressional dinosaur leaders aren't about to lead you to the current century and its issues. Guess that leaves you with your soon to be leader of the DNC...he had a black roommate once and Wyclef Jean is his favorite singer. I'm sure he'll have a lot of great ideas.
