Restaurant ban repeal (VA) - Skulduggery Alert!
Virginia Citizen's Defense League Email Alert ^ | 2-5-05 | Philip Van Cleave (Pres. VCDL)

Posted on 02/05/2005 10:56:59 AM PST by RKBA Democrat

This is the text of an alert from VCDL:

Guys and Gals,

In a bizarre turn of events in yesterday's Militia, Police and Public Safety, several key gun bills did not get heard and will be dead for the year unless we can convince Republican leadership to get the bills heard on Monday (cross-over day is Tuesday and it will be too late then).

The most important pro-gun bills that did not get heard are:

HB 2424 - Del. Cole's restaurant ban repeal HB 2935 - Del. Cline's bill to remove the Capitol gun ban (Sen. Cuccinelli's bill is dead in the Senate, so this is the only chance left this year)

There were some less important gun bills that did not get heard and some anti-gun bills, like HB 2897, Del Eisenberg's bill to allow colleges and universities to ban guns.

WHAT TO DO --NOW--

We need to let key people in the House leadership hear from us and in volume over this weekend. There are three of them. Here are the suggested emails and email addresses for each one (we did not have time to setup a reflector to all three, sorry):

Dear Delegate Howell,

In your position as Speaker of the House, I ask you to please have two major pro-gun bills that were not heard in Militia, Police and Public Safety on Friday heard on Monday, February 7th, by a special meeting of the committee.

The bills are:

HB 2424 - Del. Cole's restaurant ban repeal HB 2935 - Del. Cline's bill to remove the Capitol gun ban

As you know, if action is not taken on these bills by Tuesday, they will die. These bills passed easily out of subcommittee, don't need further public comment as comments were heard in subcommittee, and could be voted on quickly by a very short meeting of the committee.

These bills, with all the effort that have gone into them, deserve the courtesy of a vote. There is still time to do so before cross-over.

Sincerely, [YOUR NAME] [YOUR ADDRESS]

Dear Delegate Griffith,

In your position as both the House Majority Leader and a key member of the Militia, Police and Public Safety committee, I ask you to please have two major pro-gun bills that were not heard in Militia, Police and Public Safety on Friday heard on Monday, February 7th, by a special meeting of the committee. These bills, as you know, will die if not heard by cross-over on Tuesday:

HB 2424 - Del. Cole's restaurant ban repeal HB 2935 - Del. Cline's bill to remove the Capitol gun ban

As you recall, these bills passed easily out of subcommittee. The bills don't need further public comment as comments were heard in subcommittee and could be voted on quickly by a very short meeting of the full committee.

These bills, with all the effort that have gone into them, deserve the courtesy of a vote. There is still time to do so before cross-over.

Sincerely, [YOUR NAME] [YOUR ADDRESS]

Yesterday, a key committee in the Virginia General Assembly (House of Delegates) decided to simply not hear several pieces of important gun rights legislation. They ran out the clock. Dirty tricks anyone?

This is an urgent alert from VCDL to pressure key members of the House of Delegates to actually call a committee vote.

The Militia, Police, and Public Safety committee can choose to hear and vote on these bills before Tuesday, when all bills have to "cross-over" to the other house.

My apologies in advance if I've stepped on any protocols on posting action items on FR.

It's showing up under news and current events, but not on the sidebar.

I guess you can only do that when you initially post the article??

Not in Virginia. This is *the* state to live in for political junkies. We have elections every year. Sometimes more than every year if you count local offices.

All of our delegates are up this year. Virginia Senators are up in '07.
