I attended law school at a small Midwest university. One of the courses was taught by the local Indian Studies prof. He was not of Indian (NA) origin but he seemed to think he was (I must say, these are my perceptions only).
He would cry when talking of the plight of the Indian and just how badly they had been treated (no argument there). However his concepts of what to do to correct the misdeeds of the past were totally out of the world. The bottom line was that white man (white Anglo European) was the root of all evil. Just hated himself for the evils brought by his (our) forefathers).
It almost appears these people get so tangled in the issue, they become unable to separate themselves from the fictions and embrace any and all information whether fact or fiction. In doing so, they become part of the problem.
There is so much of this politically motivated ethnic stuff on campus that it has swept aside legitimate historical study which has a firm basis in scholarship.
