Rush slams Democrats, receives cheers
RADIO HOST MAKES FIRST SJ APPEARANCE
By Brad Kava
Mercury News
Preaching optimism and slamming Democrats, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh was greeted like a rock star by a packed San Jose Civic Auditorium audience Tuesday night.
``We are in the midst of a seminal historic shift in this country,'' Limbaugh, 54, told a crowd that paid $40 a ticket and welcomed him with a standing ovation. ``The Democrat party and the media have lost their monopoly. They don't rule the roost anymore.''
Other than one swear word and a slightly off-color story about Sen. Ted Kennedy's sex life, his fare was largely that of his radio show -- the country's most popular with some 20 million listeners.

It was the host's first appearance in the Bay Area, and the money raised will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
It was a fun event for us!

And for the record...
No, he didn't bring up the Super Bowl and Donovan McNabb. :-)
Also, KSFO's Melanie Morgan was there to introduce Mr. Limbaugh. She was her usual charming hostess with the mostess. :-)

``The Democrat party and the media have lost their monopoly. They don't rule the roost anymore.'
This is the same roost referred to by that professor at CU. Calling hard working, optimistic, family rearing conservatives 'little Eichmanns' reveals Churchill's lack of thought. His refusal to apologize reveals his lack of character.

More, please!
How many were there? I lived in SJ in the 80's and, as I recall, that's a pretty big arena.
I can't believe the anti-Americans didn't show up.

Nobody better than Rush. I'm missing him this week on his radio show. Having withdrawal pains. Can't wait for him to get back.

I wish Rush would let Howie Carr from Boston sub for him. He is the funnist SOB on the radio. He has so many great stories about Mass politicians, Kerry. Ted et al. I think the audience would love him. What ever happened to B-1 Bob?

a slightly off-color story about Sen. Ted Kennedy's sex life...
The comment went something like:
There was this video of Ted Kennedy on a boat with this young blonde (not his wife) and they were having pleasure and such. So this blonde goes diving into the water... and Teddy does likewise... so the joke was that this would be the first time Teddy went diving into the water for some young blonde.

The article said 2,700 people. We had folding chairs on the civic center floor and the balcony was used as well.
I can't believe the anti-Americans didn't show up.
I was a little surprised myself. Not complaining, though.

Reminded me of his TV show with the audience and all that. An hour and a half without commerical interuption though and it was great. Wondeful sense of humor with his notoriously optimistic outlook.
First question asked of him was how to turn our state into a red state and he cheekily said, "You're screwed." ;-) But he eventually gave us more optimism to go with.

Oh, the main story was as follows (from
another thread)...
Rush sometimes tells the story about Senator Sam Erwin of Watergate fame. Erwin was shown a picture of Teddy Kennedy at sea on his boat in the act of having sex with young woman. Erwin looked at the picture of Kennedy and the young lady having sex for a moment then remarked, "I see the Senator from Massachusetts has changed his position on offshore drilling."
