It wasn't his use of forged documents to slander President Bush along with a lifetime of slanting the news leftward that angered conservatives; it was his support of such causes as Civil Rights, said Dan Rather with a straight face.
According to RatherBiased.com, Rather attended a CBS holiday press party where he encountered liberal Vanity Fair magazine writer Michael Wolff, who writes in his magazine's current issue that he sought to learn why the CBS anchorman is so unpopular with conservatives.
Wrote Wolff: "Really ... how ... I mean ..." - I began trying to circle the elephant - "do you think it is that you've become such a ... I don't know ... " - I decided not to say doormat, or pustule, or piece of meat - "buzzword ... for the right wing?" "'You tell me.' Rather stood like an old soldier, stiff, stuffed, painfully erect.
"One of our circle, another card-carrying member of the liberal media establishment, said, helpfully, 'Lots of people still hear the name Richard Nixon when you say Dan Rather.' I flashed on the old silent majority - and its remarkable, modern media ascendancy.
"'Civil rights,' said Rather. 'Vietnam. Watergate. These were the stories we told. We're now being blamed for them.'
"That we were back in the 60s was certainly pathetic. That we were blaming all our troubles on the great right-wing conspiracy was equally weak. Recalling all this was another way of saying that Rather, at 73, was not just a screw up, but misty with age," Wolff wrote.
And drowning in his liberal bias, he might have added.
BARF
He deserves some kind of award for that one. The "Absolutely, 100% Not Guilty" Award For Audacity
As far as I know, Rather is still sticking by the "Fake but accurate" line.
No?
Why are liberals soooo self pitying?
And once again the vengeful man falls into the pit he has dug for another.
Someone should remind rather that it was DEMOCRAPS who opposed civil rights legislation and Republicans passed it- and also Abe Lincoln was a Republican.
The description is correct, but soldier was not the word that came to mind.
This writing is absolutely unintelligible, is that wolffe's fault or the newsmax writers?
No?
No. Dan Rather still contends that the documents are REAL!
Rather muttering to himself in the halls again
Is the old bastard playing the race card? Can you say it's over, or what?
He's THIS CLOSE to requiring the men in the white coats and Tasars coming after him...
"'Civil rights,' said Rather. 'Vietnam. Watergate."
Wow... and the sticking-your-head-in-the-sand award for this year goes to...!
Hey Rather... I am for civil rights, am glad we left vietnam, and am glad we got to the bottom of watergate. Yet I still think you are a left-wing bias machine... so how does your little theory account for me?
An old horse like Rather shouldn't be set out to pasture, rather, sent to the glue factory.
Regards, Ivan
He will NEVER "get it".
They try to justify their bias, plain and simple. They do not see it as bias because everyone around them has the same perspective. Once they are hit with facts repudiating their bias, it is an attack because they DO NOT SEE their view as not being the Common Man's view. Since the MSM's monopoly on "point of view" has been skewed by the Internet; blogs Message Boards, alternate news site, etc., they are now threatened by different points of view which clash with their left leaning bias, and they see it as attacks.
"It's a victory for Gore."
-Dan Rather, to a national audience, upon reading one sentence of the Supreme Court ruling that ended the recount in Florida which George W. Bush won.
EARTH TO DAN: Vietnam? Watergate? Nixon? IT'S THE BIAS, STUPID!
