Senior IDF officer latest recipient of death threat

A string of death threats against senior political figures has reached the Israel Defense Forces as well.

Brigadier General Ilan Paz, the head of the IDF civilian administration in the West Bank, received a death threat this week from a far-right activist.

The letter, which is the first of its kind to be sent to an IDF officer, threatens Paz with "death by the hand of G-d," and accuses him of being a "leftist" and prioritizing the needs of Palestinians above the settlers.

The catalyst for the letter is apparently the administration's opposition to a decision by settlers to bury Kochav Yaacov's rabbi in a Palestinian-owned plot near Ramallah. The administration's efforts to prevent the burial were ineffective.

Ariel Sharon, we are losing the country! Do you care at all?

...in a Palestinian-owned plot near Ramallah

Palestinian-owned? Says whom? And what of the 'Palestinian-owned' temple mount then?

So your claim is that the Palestinians have no property rights in the West Bank?

I just can't decide whether all this "territory" trading is a good deal or not. I keep going back and forth.

On the one hand I decide that Israel "WON" the territory in battle and needs a buffer between Herself and Muslim Countries who have sworn to do her in.

Before anyone gets too high and mighty about this "won" theory . . . how do you think MOST territory has ALWAYS changed hands from the beginning of time? It was taken from someone else. I seem to remember something about an American Revolution in 1776 where a bunch of renegades took some of the King's territory and laid claim to it.

Were all these historical Spoils of War just? Of course not . . . but then that would depend on the perspective you have when you approach the problem, wouldn't it?

Is it just for Israel to keep the territory it won? Yes . . . and no.

That's why I'm posting this. I need some input from other FReepers who know far more about this than I.

I think the Israeli territory was "justly" won because, for the most part, Israel's enemies have attacked Her, not vice-versa. Hence, in my view, a penalty should be paid. If not, why would they not just attack again once they re-built their forces? At least if Israel has control of the additional territory She has a built-in buffer zone to give Her time to react to any attack.

Then I wonder . . . Okay, Sharon has been there almost from the beginning. I've never seen ANYONE call him a Dove. So why is he okay with trading territory for peace if it's not a good thing? Surely he knows more about this than I.

Or is this just Sharon's way of saying, "Okay, America, I'm making this last-ditch effort at your behest . . . even though I don't think it'll work. I want you to see for yourselves that NO ONE can negotiate with the Palestinians in particular, nor the Radical Muslims in general."

Is this the analysis of an admitted simpleton? LOL. Namely me?

Or is there some other reason that makes more sense for Israel giving away Her precious territory? I'm sure there are . . . I just can't think of any.

This keeps rattling around in my head. I can't think of ONE example where an Arab Government has kept their word when dealing with Israel.

Camp David, you say?

Well 1979 wasn't THAT long ago. I'd rather not give Egypt credit yet . . . try me again in about 50 more years.

Also . . . some think Egypt's military was in such shambles after the Israelis kicked their asses in 1973 that they have still yet to recover.

And remember this . . . the Father of the Rabid Islamist Terrorist Movement, Jimmah Carter, reigned over Camp David and it has not yet been proven that he has the IQ of a three-toed sloth. We do know however that he's damn sure shown a tendency to agree with all things anti-American lately. Who's to say this affliction didn't start in the 70's?

So I'm back where I started. Is the land-swapping a good deal or not?

I'm not Jewish and I don't live in Israel, but to me, I don't think any of this territory trading is a good deal. Not when those that Israel is are pressured to "make peace" with say their goal is still the destruction of Israel in Arabic broadcasts, but say they "want peace" to the Western MSM. Given the track record and history of the PLO/PA/Islamikazes, giving away more of the Land of Israel to such types is to me, to commit national suicide.

I'll let my Jewish and Israeli friends elaborate as needed.

You are lucky to have Baby. What a great story. I don't know about the land-swapping though.

A strong majority of Israelis seems to favor it. Meanwhile, many of the harshest "no compromise" voices live here, and aren't directly affected by the continuing state of siege in Israel.

Giving Egypt back the Sinai has worked out well. Peace has held there for over twenty years. Jordan is on good terms with Israel as well. This Palestinian state will be compelled to act like a real nation, once it controls Gaza and most of the West Bank. That means maintaining order in its own territory.

President Bush is firmly committed to protecting the existence of Israel, but he's even made it clear: to ensure even the possibility of continuing peace, there needs to be a Palestinian state.

Amen . . . and thank God. We just this minute got back from the local lake. Our FIRST excursion like that alone . . . EVER! We weren't gone long, two hours, but the love and trust I have for that critter is immeasurable. She is a God-send. The Lord truly does work in mysterious ways.

Even at the lake where there is vast open spaces and plenty of room to roam . . . she never got more than four feet away from my side. I couldn't have been adopted by a more loving baby-sitter. LOL.

I looked at your profile because I thought it was a well thought out question and was just curious, imagine my surprise and delight to see a story of a faithful and loving four legged companion. I am glad Baby's life was saved.

Well, IMHO and my opinion only, no. Palestinians have no property rights anywhere between Jordan and the sea.
