[posted in an earlier thread, Ward Churchill - Response from University]:

I'm still trying to find hardcopy of his 1991 resume, where he now claims Tribal Enrollment as a Cherokee, and changed his military service to be "Airborne, Recondo trained" - this resume' was dated from around the time he was tenured, so it's possible his tenure was based on fraud...

However, think Ward Churchill now, do you think, with his attitude, phony publishing record, anti-authority mentality, and political advocacy, that he was a good Department Head? And once again, I can't imagine giving a Headship to a person without a Ph.D. It just isn't done. Not in normal universities, but then again U. of Colorado is a totally PC university, so anything can probably happen there

I doubt that "anything" can happen there.

I'm sure the leftist orientation of the administration and faculty provided protective coloration for Churchill's fraud, but the specific acts involved in his employment, tenure, and headship are almost surely violations of existing University policy, done by specific, identifiable individuals for reasons of their own-likely to facilitate the indoctrination of children into an anti-American, revolutionary cult.

I am much more interested in finding, outing, removing, and punishing Ward Churchill's masters than I am in what happens to old Sitting Bullsh*t himself.

Left in place, he is a poster boy for reform of academia (which is why he will be fired soon).

But if he is fired and those who created him are left in place, there will soon be a more clever and more insidious revolutionary in his place.

Who broke the rules to hire Churchill? Who broke the rules to promote Churchill? Who broke the rules to give Churchill tenure?

Find THEM, fire THEM, prosecute THEM if possible, and we'll be making progress.

Yep--want to see the U of C faculty now turn on Churchill--no Ph.D and a bogus review period will help that a lot.

All those who did present necessary credentials and who did get vetted at multiple levles of reviews for tenure will not appreciate this one bit.

sounds like he used the Jesse Jackson form of extortion to get the position. You know "I'll make your life hell, and you'll all be known as American Indian Haters-Bigot-Racist-" (add your epithet here)

I have never heard of a tenured professor at an accredited university, who didn't have a Ph.D.

It is usually only reserved for Staff and maybe Deans.

Now the University of Denver looks very bad. Sort of like a joke.

In other news, one can obtain a PhD in mathematics by passing four comps, and an oral exam. Not one day in class required.

Really? From where? LaSalle University?

Kidding! But seriously, I would be interested in knowing more about who is offering this type of tests-plus-exam degree.

According to that older resume, his military service was that of a journalist-Just like AL Gore.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, except I like "aboriginal Americans". They're only Indians because of Columbus' confusion, right?

***He also claimed he fought in Vietnam, turns out he was not in combat, he drove a light truck.*** He may be a bigger liar, than John Kerry.

Not only did he claim to 'fight', he's also claimed on occasion in his resume that he was a LRRP and went to MACV Recondo School. But naturally there's no record of him being anywhere near Nha Trang, let alone being in the school - as a washout or otherwise. (Heck, he probably heard about the Recondo School while sitting in a hooch smoking weed)

So this guy just isn't a liar LIKE Kerry, he's worse. He's like the typical phony 'war criminals' that VVAW found to testify at those phony 'hearings' in Detroit. In short, the guy's a maggot.

It does happen, but it is not normal. Universities love the Ph.D. degree.

Some Master's degrees (I'm guessing most) require the completion of a thesis in addition to comps.

A masters' degree does NOT require completion of a thesis. If you can pass a comp exam, you can skip writing a thesis altogether. I wrote a thesis for my masters.

Colleges and universities have masters' programs that vary. I believe, however, that most require a thesis of some sort.

In the particular subject I was enrolled in, there was an option of a regular master's thesis - or three, shorter dissertations that were expected to demonstrate the quality in research methodology of the regular thesis, but which would concentrate this on three subjects of shorter scope, one of which could be in the candidate's minor field.

You would find Boulder, itself, suffocatingly PC and suffocatingly yuppish.

Huh. I had no idea there were "shortcuts" in what is usually a very lengthy, very costly process.
