There is an interesting story that I can tell here. During the Noriega period...1987 roughly...things were going downhill in Panama between the US and Noriega (Tony). Tony had several cars, which happened to have the SOUTHCOM stickers on them...which allowed him full access into any installation. Tony hadn't used these in several years (since he was on the bad boy list). One day...a daughter of his...unknown as to which of the daughters...came back from Dominican Republic (she was married to some DR guy and had been up there for 3 or 4 years). She was going to party it up in Panama City that night. She borrowed Dad's car, with the decal. She drank excessively, and it came time to go home. The quickest route which she figured out...was a cut through Albrook AFS (the US facility)...which she had done as a teenager all the time. The decal allowed her immeadte access with no questions asked. She came up through the gate and entered with no SPs harassing her or saying anything...and then proceeded to do about 60 mph through base housing (the speed limit was 25 mph). The SP's pulled her over, and they began to ask for ID and drivers license. She began yelling at them and the whole thing went south. They hand cuffed her and took her off to the station. Well...then they realized who they had...and called SOUTHCOM to get some advice. The dimwit officer at SOUTHCOM figured he better call his Panama liasion officer...who called Tony. Tony got his daughter out of the American station...and by 7AM...had arrested over 20 Americans for petty crimes (no tail light, excessive speed, etc). It finally simmered over by the next afternoon.

I know Tony had 3 daughters...all were considered B*****'s. It would be interesting to see the history on this Panamanian diplomat...and if she was the Albrook "guest".

I lived on howard when this happened as a dependent, and remember my step-father was one of those stopped. My recall was that a much larger number of soldiers commuting had been stopped, then subsequently released on the scene.
