IN THESE PARTS, it's never too early to start talking about the next Presidential election. A month after Democrat John Edwards returned to the first-primary state to speak to a party fundraiser, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., who is also keeping his options open for 2008, will come to New Hampshire a week from tomorrow.
Two weeks later, Frist will arrive in New Hampshire yet again.
Two visits in three weeks? Sounds like an aggressive schedule for early 2005.
It just worked out that way, according to Frist spokesman and former New Hampshire newsman Bob Stevenson. Frist agreed to headline three county Republican committee events, hoping that all three could be coordinated on the same weekend.
But when that couldn't be worked out, Frist kept his promises to appear at the Manchester Republican Committee Lincoln-Reagan Dinner on March 4 at the Executive Court conference center, a Cheshire County Republican Committee breakfast on March 5 at the Keene Country Club, and then to return on March 18 for the Merrimack County Lincoln Day Dinner at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord.
Stevenson said Frist "didn't want to disappoint anybody."
Why is Frist visiting? "It's never too early to start looking at 2006 to build on our majority in the Senate," Stevenson deadpanned, knowing darn well that neither New Hampshire U.S. Senate seat is open in 2006.
We're also told other 2008 "possibles" will be on their way.
Invites from county committees for Lincoln Day dinner speaking engagements have gone to the likes of Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Nebraska, and Govs. George Pataki of New York and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, to name a few.
THE NEWT FUNDRAISER. When former Speaker of the U.S. House Newt Gingrich arrives in New Hampshire in mid-April, he won't only be hawking his new book, "Winning the Future."
The Republican State Committee plans to utilize Gingrich's lightening rod qualities to raise a few dollars. A fundraiser is planned for April 18 at a location to be determined, according to state committee chair Warren Henderson.
Gingrich hasn't entirely shut the door on a Presidential run, but on Tuesday, he told reporters in Washington, "It strikes me as implausible" that he will launch a campaign for President or any other elected office.
Too late for this Freeper.
Can't wait.
Frist can be likened to Dole....nothin'. We need someone who is Conservative, has vision and who has some SPARK.
"Too late for this Freeper."
AMEN!!!
" We need someone who is Conservative"
I honestly think the Republican Party has lost sight as to what a conservative is or isn't. We need a conservative with domestic vision. Yes, we need the spark, but not a polarizing spark.
I tried to promote Dole heavy in NH back in '96. It was like trying to sell a Zippo lighter without flint or fuel.(How's that for spark?)
hell yeah.....
you know the Queen of Evil, senior/junior Senator, from here in New York is showing a surprisingly conservative international facade.....if she throws in a few pro second amendment false promises she could be one tough mama to beat in '08...and that is a scarry proposition.....
Do we offer Condi Rice??? She has never been elected to public office and some say that the southern Bush democrats will NOT vote for an 'n' word.
Probably the best thing we can do is to get those 60 votes in the Senate in '06 and make it strong. Hope and work for a contender in '08.
I wouldn't mind seeing the author of the Balanced Budget Amendment do some exploring...John Kasich. He's got a good financial background, pro-life and a solid public service record.
I am less interested in his travels than I am in his growing a spine and using the nuclear option in the Senate this year.
That's about as likely as his being president.
That's about as likely as his being president.
Exactly right. Get some judges through, esp. Supremes, or kiss your presidential ambitions good-bye.
As far as I'm concerned it's already too late. I wouldn't want this invertebrate facing off with N. Korea, Putin, China, Iran, Syria, etc. etc. They'd eat his lunch, spank him and send him home crying
Go here to email Frist and tell him to use the Constitutional option!
